Default Where in the world is Kristopher Cook?

Not sure how many of you know of the interesting story of KC - it's spreading all over the internets..

Friends of a Calgary man who told them he was battling brain cancer are wondering where he is and what happened to the money they raised for his treatment.

It says he's rumored to be in Victoria, B.C.

Either way, he's not a wanted man yet and the allegations haven't even proven to be false.

He could have brain cancer for all we know.

If they were sure he didn't, he'd be charged by now and a warrant would be out for his arrest. He is still being investigated.

If these allegations turn out to be true, and this dbag faked cancer to steal money from his friends, then I hope he actually does get cancer. Karma served.

i had a "freind" of mine do this. She didn't want any money, but did waste a significant amount of everyone's time. i think people do this sort of thing for the attention. don't get me wrong i'm sure he likes the money too, i mean 10,000 dollars in one year is a lot of money for a hipster.
my experience went from fake backstories, to fake over the weekend surgeries, to faked doctors notes, the whole show. i once called her mom and was like hey how's kelsey's treatments going? and he mom is like "what did she tell you?" "that she has cancer" "oh dear" and she hangs up.haven't spoken to her in years. i assume she thought we wouldn't hang out with her if we didn't pity her, and she was right.
to sum up my point, i suspect this is more compulsive liar than it is master con-man.

I was really good friends with this guy for a couple of years. I met him through the indie music scene and through some friends that worked with him in the kitchen at Limericks. He's one of the most charismatic people you'll ever meet. Seriously, you meet the guy and you love him.

Then I found out he had been skimming rent from his roomates, also friends of mine, for months, finally to the point where he was just keeping all their rent checks. He pulled a midnight move and they got evicted and had to pay back rent.

He also owes my bands a couple hundred bucks for gigs that he would "pay us later for". He's a piece of #@*$.

As per 660 News...

Quote:
Police have laid charges against 28 year old Kristopher Cook in relation to an alleged fraudulent cancer fundraiser.
Quote:
CALGARY - A Calgary man has been accused of pretending to have cancer and holding a fundraiser that garnered $7,500.
Police say the silent auction was held July 8, 2011, to raise funds for a man's cancer treatment.
The venue had been provided free of charge, and guests paid thousands of dollars for various donated items.
Following the event, attendees became skeptical that the man was using the funds for cancer treatment, and whether he had been diagnosed with cancer at all.
Police received information from the public in August and determined the funds were raised under fraudulent pretences.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 28-year-old Kristopher Nicholas Cook, of no fixed address.
He is described as white, five feet, eight inches tall, about 140 pounds and slim build.
Cook has brown eyes and hair and a receding hairline.
Looks like 2 charges of fraud over $5k as per Metro news

I used to know this guy. He went to the same High school as I did but he was a grade lower than I was. He was friends with one of the girls in my grade that I had a thing for. He seemed kinda off when he talked to us and stuff.

There was a day where he supposedly got kicked out of the house by his parents and he needed a place to stay, so the girl asked if I could help him out with a spare room, which in turn never happened because my parents would kill me if I let a stranger live with us.

He seemed like such a nice guy too, its a shame something like this got to him.

I am not sure fraud gets to anyone other than the victims.

If you meant that it's a shame his life didn't work out better, so he didn't need to resort to this type of activity.....well that is something else.

Maybe it's some form of mental disorder, depression, or whatever that led him to this affront. He may not be a total dink but in need of psychiatrist.

You might be right, you might be wrong. Either way his victims are still out their money.

No sympathy at all for this dbag crook. Low-life scammers like him will have it coming back to him.

What I can't believe about this story is that the guy is bumming around Victoria. It's a pretty small world, and even smaller with the internet. There are lots of people that frequent more cities than one. Off the top of my head, I have four friends that spend substantial amounts of time in other cities in Canada, whether for work, or because they're from there, or family or friends moved there... It just baffles me that a person from Calgary would do this, and then hide out in Victoria. Oooh-kay, dude. You're going to be spotted within a week or two. If you want to pull a d-bag scheme like this, at least go somewhere far away after you've scammed all your friends. Going to Victoria is like moving to another quadrant in Calgary.
