Default Recommend a good Veterinarian

After many years of service of being the best Veterinarian in the city, he's decided to retire as of two months ago...

I'm looking for a new vet to take my cat to.

Can anyone recommend a good vet?
Location in Calgary isnt an issue

I've had awesome experiences with the Fish Creek 24hr Pet Hospital located in the "deep" sw (http://www.fishcreekvets.com/contact.php). Super friendly dr's and the prices have always been less than expected.

We were told he was the best too, went to him a couple of times with our dog, he seemed friendly enough but I wasn't that impressed with his knowledge or prices.

We are pretty happy with Centre Street Vet, in the Thornhill area. I wouldn't say I am in love with it, but I don't feel like they give us a hard sell for anything.

I doubt anyone is happy with the costs of vets, but that is the price of pet ownership. We use Dr. Goldbeck at Westmount Vet in Kensington. He's definitely not cheap, but he does seem to do a bit more (lots of sample drug packages instead of buying a bottle, etc.).

Our Lab Iggy seems to really like him, even though there's always a cat in there threatening to lay a beating on her!!

For serious emergencies we go the vet on 11th Ave just under the Crowchild overpass. Western Canadian I think.

We've used Dr. Miranda Bourque of Foothills Animal Hospital in Okotoks for many years.

Same. We use these guys too. One of the ets has left but they have two, and maybe going back to 3. Dr. P is still around. He's pretty good.

I feel obliged to correct this, because he's a family member, but it's Porostocky.

Yes he certainly did. He was probably the cheapest vet in town but did that so a lot of people could afford to have their pets cared for.

I might be slightly biased, but you should check out the MacLeod Trail Vet clinic. Dr. Obrien use to work for Dr. Torrence for many years and is now down there. In fact, it's one of a few clinics that he recommends his old clients go to. For the most part they only look after cats and dogs so you should be in good hands there.

Our experiences at the McKnight Animal Hospital have been great. Helpful, knowledgeable, keeps our pets very healthy yet also keeps costs down. Great experiences so far.

Do not recommend. My experience is opposite to Grimm's. These guys seem to be all about the Benjamins IMO.

We switched to Marda Loop vet clinic and couldn't be happier.

There are a lot of clinics where the vets are paid based on the amount of business they bring in. So the more surgeries they do, they more money they make. As such I've seen an example where a vet suggested a 800 dollar surgery when all that was needed was a prescription. The surgery would have worked but the vet probably should have suggested the pills first and then opted for surgery if the pills didn't work.

Edit: It should be noted that the above applies to a lot of the big chain clinics.

I'd recommend Dr. Emery Cyfra at the Animal Clinic West, corner of Bow Trail and 37th St. SW.

I took my dogs to Torrence on his last day back in June, and he told me he might come back and work for the new owners.

At that time, a deal was just being worked out to purchase his clinic, but nothing was final.

A lady at the dog park I go to said he is working there now, but I can't confirm this. Maybe TransCanada a call . . .

Torrence also recommended a vet in Brentwood, though I will have to get back to you with the name.

Visited Dr Procostocy and He was alright. I was alittle concerned with how empty the place was when i was there, thinking i was the only sucker they have business with

$650 for surgery for a infected minor fleshwound...

Thanks guys for the recommendation, i'll have to check out fish creek one day and maybe look for Dr. O'brien
