Default Mass. judge orders taxpayer-funded sex change operation for convicted murderer

http://www.washingtonpost.com/nation...849_story.html

Quote:
BOSTON — A ruling ordering Massachusetts prison officials to provide sex-reassignment surgery to an inmate is being praised by advocates as important recognition that the surgery is a legitimate treatment for gender-identity disorder, even as critics including Sen. Scott Brown call it “an outrageous abuse of taxpayer dollars.”

U.S. District Judge Mark Wolf ruled Tuesday in the case of Michelle Kosilek, a transgender inmate serving life in prison for murder. Wolf said the Department of Correction must provide the taxpayer-funded surgery because it is the only way to treat Kosilek’s “serious medical need.”

Kosilek was born male but has received hormone treatments and now lives as a woman in an all-male prison. Kosilek was named Robert when married to Cheryl Kosilek and convicted of murdering her in 1990.

There's no way a person like that should be in a men's prison.

When you murder someone you give up the right for the state to do anything for you besides put you in a 6x9 cell and feed you 3x per day.

Will he be staying in the mens prison once he gets rid of his dangle and 2 bits?

Never understood why this is covered by any government in the first place. I have no issue with people wanting to get it done, but I don't see why the government has to/should pay for it.

Supposedly, it's a "right."

Does the government cover medical costs of other inmates?

Healthcare is a right to inmates. This is proper healthcare. She is an inmate. End of story.

How is that proper healthcare? I personally don't understand...

If a guy is ugly and cannot pick up girls, does the government pay for his nose job or tummy tuck? Nope.
If a girl wants larger boobs because she thinks that will make her more attractive does the government pay for her boob job? Nope.
If someone wants to modify their sex organs from what they are to the opposite sex, does the government pay for their operations? Yes.
Please explain what is so different.

So let me get this right...

If I'm an American dying of some type of disease, I am better off commiting a crime and going to jail and having the government pay for the health bill than to be a contributing member of society and making my family pay for the bill after I die.

God Bless America.

Just like any other medical procedure. It's an effective treatment to a medically recognized disorder.

Really, is it effective? It is a disorder that cannot be measured or verified and how is it considered effective? The treatment makes a person barely similar to what their goal is.

This change is purely cosmetic.

I don't really understand how such a change is needed while you spend your life in prison. You either get to live your life with men (if you're a man), or women (if you are a woman).

Is he going to stay in the men's prison after the operation?

Why do you think your opinion is meaningful or valuable in a topic you know nothing about?

It's really simple. There is consensus in the medical community about gender dysphoria being a legitimate disorder and genital surgery as an effective treatment.

There's just all this baggage and dogma attached to gender in our society that people get all freaked out by something that's rather simple.

I think we are all better than allowing dogma to get in the way of helping people get the medical care they need.

A childish non-sensical one-liner because you don't want an actual conversation about what works and what doesn't based on evidence and human experience. Sorry to ruin your backward ass circlejerk.
