We can do without JDG. After watching the game against Honduras, it is clear that Canada is trying to play a team game, not an individual one. Therefore, I just don't see how JDS would make much of a difference over the system Canada employs now. As long as Hutchinson, Johnson, and Julian de Guzman are patrolling the midfield, and Dwayne de Rosario and Simeon Jackson upfront, does JDS really make that much of a difference?

We should be crossing our fingers for David Hoilett.

Still no Hoilett for Canada or Jamaica - guess his "waiting to get my club situation settled" excuse was just that. He's definately putting it off to see who makes the hex.

Too bad about Josh Simpson, otherwise a full strength roster what could be the two biggest games for the NT since the 98 qualifying cycle. Win em both and they're as good as in to the hex. At least a single point keeps them alive and anything better is solid. Of course, lose them both and we'll be a speedbump yet again.

33 but playing regularly in Norway at least, Borjan has had some club difficulties (went to Romania somewhere for a payday, club almost went under if I recall correctly).

For the last 5 or 6 years Canada has had well placed youth keepers in good programs around the world, just nobody aside from Assmir has broken through.

Is anyone headed to these games? I'm seriously thinking about it.

Sounds like the CanMNT documentary is about to be released too. It should be good.

I think the Hoilett ship has sailed.

I wouldnt be surprised if hes waiting to be nationalized elsewhere and goes to play some other country.

Hence, from his Wiki page:

Quote:
In March 2012, Hoilett told various media bodies that he would consider playing for the England national football team.[20][21]

As Hoilett, his parents and grandparents were not born on the territory of the The Football Association, Hoilett would need to meet additional criteria established between the associations of the Home Nations. The Home Nations do not offer eligibility to play for their national teams based solely on a residency requirement, instead they require players to be educated in the relevant Football Association's territory for five years before the age of 18.[22]

Looks like it. I had originally posted wondering about him, but did a bit of reading and came across what you did.

Frustrating, but I get it. On the women's side, three of the current national team members are American born. LeBlanc is through and through a Canadian and has done so much for soccer in Maple Ridge. Then I look at someone like Sesselman who joined the squad just last year because her dad was born in Newfoundland. She didn't see an opportunity with the US squad and worked hard to get the attention of Canada Soccer. She's now a permanent fixture on the backline and is a big reason the women have been so successful the last 12 months. I was bitter about Leroux for a long time, who would have been a starter for the Canadian squad, rather a sub for the US team. Things work out for a reason. I hope the same can happen on the men's side. Soccer has a real chance to blossom in Canada in the next few years.

Hoilett's options have been discussed quite a bit on the Vees board and he's actually not eligible to represent England since he doesn't meet that 5 years of education before turning 18 rule (he went over at 13 but spent two years on loan in Germany).

I think he was hoping to get into the GB olympic squad which doesn't have the same rules, now it's down to Canada or Jamaica.

I've been trying to keep up on the Voyageurs board, but it got a little hostile , so I took a short break in the forum on the men's team.

It will be interesting to see how this all transpires. He's no doubt talented and would be a welcomed edition to the national team. I don't want to give up on him just yet.

Goals by Simeon Jackson in 2012/13 - 1
Goals by Junior Hoilett in 2012/13 - 0

Just sayin

Hoilett is not joining the team, let's be honest here. I'm more excited about a kid like Ashtone Morgan building his career with the national team than about Hoilett now.

yes unfortunatly quite a shame really. I'm not sure if its possible for him given the 5 year education rule, but I can see the whole Nationality issue settled with Hoilett getting his England citizenship being that its his place of employment and where he now lives, and that being his parents plan all along. I don't think he will play for Jamiaca either.
How anyone that turns their back on their country I will never understand.

Enjoy playing for crappy QPR and racking up the losses, then getting relegated next season. How long of a deal did he sign again?

Most of that aside, I dont understand this mentality. Personally, I bid good riddance when someone says;

"I dont want to play for Canada or Jamaica, I want to play for England/Holland so I can play in the big games in the big tournaments"

Yes, thats nice son, 'cept you arent good enough to make those teams.

I wanted to make sure the game on Sept 7th was on my PVR and I just noticed it will only be on SNO now and no longer SN1? Disappointing. The replay is only on SNW too. I thought they would make more of an effort for a Friday night game.

It's frustrating that a World Cup Qualifying match takes a backseat to another ####ty Blue Jays game. For a network that claims to be the leader in soccer coverage, stuff like this frustrates the hell out of me.

I think I've got it - my listing says Sportsnet One has world cup qualifying soccer from 4:30-7 on Friday - teams aren't listed but that is the exact start time for the Canada-Panama match so I'm assuming....

Hate it when they did that in the last round using Sportsnet Ontario.
