Funny, Timbers fans were saying the opposite. I'll admit, that was a dodgy red card. I didn't even see him make contact on Horst.

I only saw part of the first half, so I don't know how the ref was for that part of the game. The second half was terrible though, the 2nd goal for Portland should never have been a free kick, the red card wasn't even close, and Songo'o (sp?) got away with a clear yellow right at the end.
Vancouver was poor today though and really can't claim to have deserved anything from that game.

Well, the corner kick leading to the Vancouver goal should not have been, and the goal scorer was offside, so there!
Let's all agree that MLS refs could use some work.

Vancouver are really starting to show some cracks. While there were a few suspect calls in the Portland match, I feel that they went both ways. Even Vancouver's goal was a basically a nice shiny bow put on a steaming pile of turd of a first half. They didn't deserve a better fate in that game, and they spent the better part of the match giving the ball away and then waiting for Portland to give it away back to them. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
Hopefully they can stop the bleeding soon as that comfortable gap between 5th and 6th isn't very comfortable at all now.

Big derby win against Whitecaps a couple of Saturdays ago with 55K in the stands. Kenny Miller looked lost and missed his mark on Montero's goal from the free kick.
As for Saturday's game against Chivas, win is a win but that could have easily have gone 6-2 for Chivas. Montero with a hat trick. Shockingly bad game defensively for supposedly good defensive clubs.

^ Looking at the standings, Chivas have 4 games in hand over the Whitecaps. They likely won't win them all, but if they get a few good results and Vancouver keeps slipping, Dallas won't be the only team that they'll be worried about. Yikes.

Chivas is a mess. Angel has not regained his form. Kennedy is a very good goalie whose backline is in shabbles. The team has no confidence in the coach and each other.
Lot of parity in MLS but I don't see Chivas fighting for a playoff spot.
I still like the Whitecaps with all that speed up front and Robson/Miller combo but they seem very dependent and predictable on the counter.

So, my next Timbers game is going to be at Seattle on 10/7. The Timbers supporters group has 20 charter buses making the trip up to Seattle, each one sponsored by a different Portland brewery with on-board kegs provided!
20+ kegs, 1000 fans, 3 hour trip, what could possibly go wrong?
Of course, they can secure the Cascadia Cup trophy with a victory at home against Seattle on 9/15. I'm hoping the Seattle 10/7 trip will just be one big party.

In a different life that would have been awesome. Now, look for me at the CLink's family section eating animal crackers.
I hope the Sounders can win a couple against the Timbers but I'll trade the Cascadia for the MLS Cup. Don't want to be too greedy!

Heh, I'm leaving the family behind in Montana. I can (usually) be trusted on my own.
I'll always be happy with the Cascadia Cup.
Though they've been in MLS two years longer, the Sounders have won as many playoff rounds in MLS as the Timbers have (zero). Those higher aspirations that you have are completely understandable...

Sounders remain top in their group in CCL with a convincing 3-1 win over Caledonia in Trinidad.
Always love soccer with non-league play and very exotic locales but wish there was consistent broadcasting rather than the hodgepodge it is now.
It and all CCL games are on CONCACAF TV for free when you register:

^ The broadcasts can be pretty hit and miss, even for international matches. In the last round of World Cup qualifiers I remember watching a web-only stream on Sportsnet of one of the matches because the couldn't or wouldn't send a proper crew there, and the host broadcaster wasn't up to snuff.
It was still fun to tune in (to the single camera and impromptu play-by-play), but it sure makes you realize how good we have it in Canada and the US with our broadcasters.

Sounders jump over RSL for 2nd in conference with win over Chivas 2-1 on Saturday and a draw against FC Dallas the week before.
I love those Latin American looking kits on Chivas though I always get thirsty looking at them.
Coming up is a derby against arch rival Timbers. Bragging rights to the Cascadia Cup if Portland wins.
Montero/Johnson upfront have been lethal so should be loud and intense.

Timbers will be missing one of their better defensive mids (former Ranger Stephen Smith) due to yellow card accumulation, but strange things happen at Jeld-Wen field.
Capturing the Cascadia Cup would be a great accomplishment for this squad. As a Timbers fan, we're often asked to "believe beyond reason", therefore, I envision a 3-2 victory!

Toronto FC can clinch their 6th straight no playoff season tonight with a draw or loss. Model franchise.

Looks windy, but definitely a ton of empty seats @ BMO tonight.

Wow - Vancouver sure has been on quite the slide lately. I wasn't able to watch the Vancouver-Dallas match on Saturday, but I stayed away from the score and downloaded the full game audio podcast a few hours afterwards and listened in bed. It sure sounded like an exciting game, but what a disappointment to lose at the very end.
Now Dallas are 1 point back for the 5th and final playoff spot, although Vancouver has a game in hand. Not a very comfortable predicament considering Vancouver has lost their last 5 matches. Actually, their last win was on August 11th, which was the game I was at. Jeez.

Yeah, I'm still finding time to watch that game but swapping Miller for Hassli doesn't seem to have worked out yet. Hopefully they sneak into 5th.
LA Galaxy are on a role and are the team to watch come playoffs.
Sounders draw with Timbers in a great rivalry match in Portland. Great atmosphere and the Timber Army are the second best fans in the league. They're expecting 65K for the rematch on October 6 at the Clink.

^ De Guzman's goal at the end is a real treat. I watched the highlights this morning. Now if he'd just pull off something like that for Canada vs. Honduras in a few weeks...
