It rains, it pours. At least we'll have a top 10 pick next year.

Once he was re-injured I was thinking his season would be over. Hopefully he comes back 100%.
Lawrie is probably going to be done for the year which is a shame because I could have seen the Jays trading Johnson then moving Hech to 2B to get a head start on next year.

One of the few interesting things remaining this season for me is the progression of Villanueva. I'm curious to see if he can get deeper into games. We already know he can be a very valuable long reliever, but if he can consistently get through 6-7 innings each start then he could be even better as a starter.
He has had a fine start to the game once again tonight.

Wow. What a play at the plate. Even if the Jays do not win from here on in until the end of the season, this play have more than compensate for the sad season (ok, maybe not lose all games...). That play was sweeter than a Taber corn. Tying run on second, Pena hits to mid shallow RF, Sierra gets a one hopper, the runner is coming in to home plate, Sierra whips a laser to Mathis. A one hopper caught by the catcher turns his body to the sliding runner. Bang, tags him out while the helmets of both players goes flying and the face of the runner hits dirt and he comes out bloodied while Mathis gets the ball and shows it to the ump with an "Oh Yeah, baby!" Game over. Jays win.

Awesome ending to the game. Mathis stood his ground and made Johnson pay.

They aren't quite sure why...but it is raining @ Rogers Centre and they aren't closing the room...very weird.

The Mariners cut Joermyn Chavez
So they got a couple of seasons of league and a couple mediocre prospects in return for him and a failed prospect, in return for a top 2 starter in the AL east.
Total WAR for Toronto - 9.1, Total WAR for Seattle - 2.3

And the Jays are still in last place despite this deal, wishing they had the pitching the Mariners did. 12-0 Baltimore, now.

Maybe, but how does that have anything to do with the question which was asked....
Obviously the Jays are in last place due to playing with a AAA or AA roster.
Sure Jays have had a night mare of a season.... Mariners have been in the same boat for a long time.
Not to mention Baltimore.... they were bad for a long time... its nice to see them have a good season.

I legitimately can't remember a worse season for the Jays than this one I guess 2004 was worse, but it's too long ago to remember.

No team in the MLB would be in any different a situation as the jays are with the calibre and amount of injuries they've sustained over the past months.

If there is anything of a postive note from the vast amount of injuries.... Jays are getting a good look at some key prospects.
For example is Sierra ready for an everyday role...
Of course the Jays have had a good look at quite a few Pitchers.
In the off-season, AA is now going to have to push to make a trade for a quality Starter (times by 2).

Well the Yankees have had a fair amount of injuries themselves. They do have the ability to stock their roster with better depth which has let them survive. The Rays stayed afloat while dealing with injuries.
I hear all this hype about Jays prospects...yet what have they done in the majors? I certainly haven't seen anyone come up who looks like they'll be anything more than an average player so far.
Roy Halladay traded 3 seasons ago, what do the Jays have to show for it...two guys done for the season with injuries, and a guy who so far can't hit major league pitching. This after they kicked in money to trade him to the Phillies, and flipped the one guy who's somewhat been able to hit major league pitching.
Defend the Jays all you like, but right now they're looking like the only AL East team to not make the playoffs in the last 5 years. They knew damn well going into this season that they lacked depth in their rotation and the minor league guys have either got injured, or not been up to par. The Athletics have had injuries to their rotation too...yet they actually find a way to win.
I suspect that even if the Jays team had stayed healthy, they would still be 6-7 games behind the top 3 teams in the Division. They're more hype than substance in my books. Will be until they can play a full season and win more than 86 games.
