I will never understand people who hate Police Officers. They absolutely have one of the worst jobs in the civilized world. There job is to basically deal with the #### of society on a daily basis so we don't have to.
I actively go out of my way to buy coffee for cops who are sitting in Tim Hortons. There job sucks, and you would definitely not want to be doing it. Show some respect.

They chose to be police officers. No one forced them to be.

so the bike hit both the little girl and the 18 year old cousin? The little girl apparently bolted into the street giving the officer no time to respond other than ditching his bike, but leaving enough time for the cousin to see the bike not stopping, skidding toward the little girl, to which he had enough time to respond, get to the little girl and then get hit himself? Either that happend, or the little girl was crossing with the 18 year old cousin. I call bs on the cop.

Exactly. I almost became a cop and decided it really wasn't the life I wanted. They chose the life and they know what they are getting into.

Or the little girl darted out onto the street, and the cousin attempting to catch the little girl was just 1/2 a step behind.

I think you answered your own question. Cop-haters are, in many cases, are the #### of society you referred to.

Not only that, but I don't happen to think its a terrible job. I applied a few years ago and didn't make it. Heartbreaking.

By terrible I meant terribly difficult, stressful and challenging. And yes, they chose to become cops, uphold the law and protect you. So try to be a bit more grateful when you are doing something stupid (even if you don't think you are) and they give you grief.

If you're doing something illegal then fine, if you're acting within your rights then no thanks.

Sounds like it was just a series of unfortunate events. It's too bad that this will have a profoundly negative impact on everyone involved. Like something out a Greek tragedy.

I have never, in my 31 years, been hassled by a cop when doing something within my rights or within the scope of the law. I am not saying there aren't bad cops out there, there definitely are, but to hate all cops because of one or two bad egg is pretty ridiculous and small minded.

Why is him being a cop even relevant to this case? He was off duty at the time.
So what happened is a person had to ditch his bike in an attempt to avoid hitting the girl. The girl got hit. The person was being beaten and so pulled a legally carried weapon and defenden himself with reasonable force.
This all happens the same way if he is or isnt a cop

It's the personality of cops that I can't stand. I met one really good one in my day and the rest I have had dealings with have puffed up chests and huge egos. I even had 2 cops try to pick a fight with myself and a few other friends.
Also, from the stories of abused fathers that have to deal with them, I can see why cops as a group are getting the label that they have.
I'm not a criminal, but I sure don't like cops in general.

Actually him being a cop is relevant.
Most likely, if he wasn't a cop, the motorcyle guy would probably be dead.
Most people don't carry a handgun while riding a motorcycle. Having a gun, and using it, probably saved his life.

Seems like you've had a lot of dealings with the police. Interesting.
I would think that most people could probably count on one hand the number of experiences they've had with the police.. and probably most of those were traffic related.
