ugh......never understand why these folks just don't commit suicide without taking innocent people with them.
it seems fortunate that more people were not hurt.

This is tragic and unfortunate. It's tragic obviously because the lives lost and people injured. Unfortunate because now the NRA can say "New York has the toughest gun laws in the country and it did nothing to stop this. Gun Control doesn't work!"

Sad to hear being a former New Yorker.
This is a good time though for the media to handle the reporting the right way in the "Media Capital of the World". Don't release the suspects name (refer to him just as suspect) and focus on the victims and hurt. No point glorifying the suspect like other high profile shootings and completely ignore the victims. Won't happen though but would be nice.

Cue the gun defenders mentioning how New York has strict anti-gun laws and how that still didn't stop this, so screw any gun control.

Some reports say that it happened across the street from ESB, and a possible robbery or.... so not necessarily the "crazy man shooting tourists in the name of something" scenario everyone is probably thinking.

Yeah, I don't get this argument. Do people not travel from state to state? Why not buy me a nice gun in a nearby state and take it home with me to NYC?
How many states are within a 2-hour drive from NYC? 7?

Most reports are now saying that it was a disgruntled former employee, fired yesterday, who basically assassinated his former boss on 33rd St and then walked around the corner to 5th ave and fired randomly before being taken out. Looks like those are the only two dead, but the story is changing from minute to minute.
I'm not on that exact block very often (although I was there last week) but it's way too close for comfort.

Sounds like the gunman chased down an intended victim, shot and killed him then all hell broke loose when the panic hit the people near by he flipped out and started shooting innocent people. Then the police blasted him.

It's obvious, if more people had guns and shot more bullets, less people would have been shot.

It sounds a lot closer to the all to common crazed gunman scenario than your probably scenario. Just sayin....
