She ruined Sum 41? I'm trying to recall when they were good enough to be ruined.
The ship has sailed for Lavigne as it's hard to pull the skater girl act when you are staring at your 30's and she's rapidly heading downward into the heaping recycle bin of aging teen stars. As for Kroeger well I have to give the man credit. He's milked his mediocre talent to epic levels of wealth and stardom. If there was ever a definition of overachiever it is Chad Kroeger.

As much as I loathe Nickelback, as individual musicians away from their bread and butter gig they are all excellent musicians. As per your example, Chad Kroeger knows (having bothered to learn) enough about music to understand he has the vocal range (lowest to highest note sung well) of a Rubbermaid bin, and somehow found a way to carve hit after hit after hit. Why? Excellent technical composer. Outstanding, really, and as much as I loathe to admit it.
Avril Lavigne has nobody to blame but herself for not being relevant anymore. She was the right teeny-bopper act at the right time and hit it big. The great child stars who went on to have adult careers (thinking Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, among others) kept evolving and pushing themselves. She didn't. Does she even make music anymore?
I've had to drive to Hanna numerous times. The big sign that says "Proudly The Home Of Nickelback" makes me wonder if the band, with their bajillions of dollars, had ever given back to that community?

It could be worse. Lady Gaga was supposed to be the surrogate mother until they found out she had a penis. At that point I'm sure they just had a threesome then cut their losses and bailed.

Sure there is.
There is also far better bands out there that dont get a fair shake because Nickleback remains on the air for 14 months at a time (somehow with the same song they sang before) until their next lyrical dumpster baby is produced and hitting shelves ready to be thrown on air for another annual long broadcast and so on and so on.

By no means am I a fan of Nickelback, and yeah, I don't understand how they keep doing it, but I think the world would be a much better place if hit music stations consisted solely of Nickelback and Nickelback soundalikes (Theory of a Deadman, etc.), than Katy Perry, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, lil wayne, whatever.
That is where my music hatred lies, not with a band that at least tries to play instruments and sing without auto-tune. I'd like to see any of those people I've listed sing a live show without lip syncing.
I can't believe how much hit radio stations have changed over the last 10 years.
