I'd rather not pay the extra shipping to buy it through Google Play. Guess I'm resigned to waiting for it to be restocked in stores.

Mine is bootloader unlocked and rooted. The process is very easy but unfortunately the bootloader unlock process WILL wipe your entire device INCLUDING all media. Make sure you back up before rooting.
Process was fairly easy and low hassle. I used the Nexus Root Toolkit. Instructions are all bundled in the program.

Here's another one that seems to be updated more often and is built of an identical program for the Galaxy Nexus if you already used to that one:

I just bought one on Google Play. Just looking for something to play around with at home instead of booting the computer up. My first tablet.
I'm constantly using my 3gs to look stuff up but I think that is making my eyes worse straining to see text on a 3.5" screen.
This will be my first forray into Android. Looking forward to seeing how it compares of iOS. I sure this will help me decide which direction I go for the next phone I buy.

You won't be disappointed. I've had my Nexus 7 for about a month and absolutely love it. It's incredibly convenient, very powerful, small enough to be carried/toted around, and large enough to justify a Netflix account.
A month in, I prefer it to the iPad.

Yeah it's so much lighter that I watch videos/movies on it where I didn't do that much with the iPad.

I am a huge fan of my Nexus 7. Been fooling around with it for a few weeks. I've decided it is the perfect size. A nice sized screen for reading or watching movies. Yet not too big that it is awkward to hold, like i find the iPad

I also think that Apple should get really nervous about the Nexus 7.
Apple isn't in any immediate danger (I've just plunked a ton of coin into AAPL) but it shows that competitors, primarily Google, are putting out high quality devices that work wonderfully and do not require a PhD to operate. That's always been Apple's strength (Microsoft could never do it) but now there appears to be real competition. History will remember the Nexus 7 as an industry changing product.

It's funny to me that this device even gets compared to the iPad just because the price points are so different. It's really amazing that this tablet is competent enough to compete with something that costs more than double.
The other thing is tablets and phones are advancing at a pretty good clip right now. I don't see the advantage in spending $600+ on an iPad when in a year there will be something twice as good. $200 is relativley cheap to spend on something that will get a lot of use out of an is extremly portable and you won't feel so bad replacing it when the next big thing comes out.

I'm also very impressed with the Nexus 7 but I'm curious as to how it will change the industry.

I've noticed that my Nexus 7 drains about half its battery over night, not in use. Is that normal?

I can think of one way the industry will be changed by this. The Nexus 7 is the by far the first time a tablet has been done with excellent hardware and software at an incredibly low price. By setting the standard so high on a low end product, other manufacturers will be forced to either create better products or lower prices to compete. This will lead to better consumer choice and higher rates of tablet adoption.
Mind you this is just speculation, but given how brisk the sales are and that the bloody thing is still sold out in stores now well after release it's not completely unrealistic.

No its not normal, I got 3+ days of standby since I didn't use my tablet this weekend and I'm still at 50% charge.
Check widgets that update regularly and applications to poll instead of are hooked up to update through Google push notifications. Facebook, twitter and weather widgets tend to be a huge drain. I disable everything to update manually as I need rather than having it poll every 15 minutes like it's set to on default.
Are you on stock ROM? Did you install any other kernels or anything like that?

Stock ROM and kernel. I do have the Facebook and Twitter apps, so that could be it. I'll switch to manual updating and see if I'm still having issues.

two questions;
1. Anyone know where I can get Mini USB to OTG adapter in the city? Memory Express is sold out.
2. Has anyone connected Siaxis controller to the tablet yet? Mine keeps saying driver error.

I bought two of them on deal extreme for $2 and they work for my USB stick. Deal extreme is notoriously slow for shipping so if you need it in a rush you probably don't want to order from there.

I haven't tried hooking up a controller to my Nexus 7 yet, was actually going to try that on my GNex when I got my MHL adapter that I have on order. Let me know if you figure it out.

If you are on stock then it's probably just some app polling in the background. Take a look in your battery info tab in settings to see if there is something that stands out, if not and it's something generic like Android System, you'll have to look at getting a battery stat app like betterbatterystats to track down whats going on

my excitement took a hit when I couldn't seem to find a decent project management app, wireframing app, coding app, etc etc etc. Admittedly, I'm extremely picky about apps and user interfaces, but there just isn't much in the Google Market that isn't a benchmarking, unlocking, ROMming, wallpapering or widgeting app.

I don't have light leakage, just flickering.

I still like mine fine, but when watching a movie I did notice that something was a bit off, but I just chalked it up to it being a cheaper tablet
