English, Canadian, American media claimed them all as GB/England. Not once did i hear any analyist and that tool Brian Williams say from Scotland/Wales. It was aparrently a insult according to distant family relatives over in Wales and Scotland. Alot of citizens over there are proud of their athletes success but were angry that the main media sources did not pay respect to where the athletes were really from.

What made no sense to me was they kept calling them "Great Britain" but they were actually competing as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, or the UK, not GB.

Stranger still - England, N. Ireland, Scotland and Wales are allowed to compete as separate nations in Soccer and Rugby.
play-by-play
Hughson
Lee
Armitage
Freidman
Rainnie
Amber
Irving
Harrington
Peacock
Field-Level
Scott Oake
Andi Petrillo
and they could hire more.
I like the personnel you have posted. Terry Leibel retired from the CBC four years ago but, the CBC could ask her to come out of retirement. I think Freidman would be a host and Russell doing skiing play by play. News personnel would probably have Peter Mansbridge, Heather Hiscox, Ian Hanomansing, and Mark Kelley. Kelley did field level reporting in Turin, Italy. Other people could be from regional CBC stations news and sports departments.

I'm not sure if this is a rumour or not but I heard in the next Summer Olympics Rugby 7's is going to debut.
Wales, Scotland will have to compete seperatly from England. All 3 of those countries pride themselves in their rugby and it will be a major conflict if they are not allowed to compete vs each other.
I found it really wierd seeing Giggs and Bellamy playing with a Union Jack.
In my Cousins home town of Caerphilly. Aaron Ramsey who is from there, Welsh born and raised and both parents born Welsh. The BBC apparently on several occasions referred to him as English and from what i was told his parents were furious.
It would be like NBC referring to Crosby as an American in the playoffs.
I don't think any of the british teams will bother to qualify for rugby.
They have never attempted to qualify for soccer. They just threw a team together because they were hosting.

I think it would be more like if NBC referred to Crosby as American while he was playing on Team North America in an all-star game. I'm only aware of one mistake about Ramsey which is no big deal, but if it was true that it occurred on several occasions then that really is dire.
I'm not sure about the rugby, but Frank Lampard as well as the British women's team striker as well as the coach (all English) have indicated their desire to see Team GB again in the future. The Welsh men's manager however has indicated his desire to see the end of Team GB but I am not aware of many others.

I wonder when these games are going to get too expensive too hold. They seem to have not helped Greece in any tangible way.
The cost of the games is getting ridiculous and no Olympics has yet to demonstrate a legacy that comes close to financially compensating for it. Some commentators have suggested spreading the venues for all events over several cities or even having different countries around the world hosting different events.

.
unless the put in a team designed around the British Lions (less the Irish)

Really? I'd be surprised actually. Rugby players can play professional of course, but it's not in the same league as soccer in terms of the pay. I would imagine that they'll put a team in. There was a long period of time when there was no professional rugby at all.
Regardless though, it'll be an awesome addition. 7's is a great game to watch for the fans and I think people are really going to enjoy it!

Agree I was in San Diego on vacation a 4 years ago and didn't know there was a 7s International tournament going on. We had a couple days left that were open while the women shopped. Honestly I knew nothing about the 7s game but all the big nations that play Rugby were there so we checked out a few games. It was at the stadium where the Padres play. Wow what an atmosphere the crowd was over the top crazy and the action was fast.
It should be fantastic to watch at the Olympics and Canada is pretty good at it. We saw 2 games both quarter finals Canada destroyed Mexico in 1 game and Wales beat Australia.
From what some of the Canadian fans sitting near us said Canada did really well during group play and got the easy match up vs Mexico.

This might explain the musical selections for the closing ceremonies (Andy Partridge of XTC):
XTC @xtcfans
Universal UMG obtained rights from olympic committee, that's why music choice was so 'slanted' at closing ceremony, hardly impartial history
