Default Rolling Sockpuppets, previously banned posters

I'm probably opening myself up for shots here but is there nothing that can be done about the almost unending about of banned guys signing up again?

I'll admit I have zero ideas to help the problem... But its frustrating to see. Maybe make the wait for new users more then one week, limit the amount a new poster can post in a day, extending the wait before a new user can start s thread. None of this are solutions but they could curb the crazyness.

I also would prefer if a previously banned poster, who is allowed to return, wasn't going given a new username. Reopen their last account and force them to start over there. None of this fresh start bull.

These guys just need to let it go. If they keep on getting banned for doing the same crap over and over then why would they continue the same behavior when they know it will get them axed again? If it didn't work out the first time either change the attitude or find another forum to post on.

Anyways, you're already back, this thread is about how to curb other instances of guys like you. You should have came back under your old username, not a fresh start while still doing the same stuff.

You're the guy accusing any July or August join date of being returning users in threads all over CP. Maybe you should take your own advice.

Just found it funny that a guy complaining about returning users is indeed one himself.

No idea why this bothers you so much. Are you a martyr when it comes to returning users? Lighten up and let the mods do their jobs.

Awfully defensive about this topic, aren't you?

This place is a community, users are more then welcome to give feedback and ideas on how the forum operates. That's what this sub section is for. You're attempts to derail it are, pathetic.

You shame the Iginla name and should be banned for that alone.

So how do you know that new member X used to be banned member Y?

Are you just guessing or do you have proof?

Lets see a list on who is who.

Can the mods trace our IP addresses? If I signed up for a new account, would the mods be able to tell that it's me? I don't plan on doing that or anything, I was just wondering if it is possible.

It really never takes long to figure out if a user is a returning ex-member.

Banned posters usually have a distinct style or attitude that got them banned in the first place. Having said that, I do belive in a second chance. Lord knows I've probably come close to the sin binned in some of the GT during the season.

I think it would be funny though if returning members somehow had there old name attached to the new account, or even that it is just a returning account. If identified maybe cut back posts per day to like 10 for 6 months or something I dunno. I'm not a mod and I don't know if what I suggested is even possible.

I think so. I am a mod on a German speaking sports forum and I can do that there ... most boards have that option I think

Awww goddammit. I had a nice post with my ideas and it got erased and I got logged out.

Basically it was let's all agree not to talk about returnees at all (that can be enforced with infractions if necessary) and learn to all post together as one big happy forum.

It was basically live and let live. A returning troll is no different than a first time troll. Report their posts and let the mods deal with it. Don't like the way the mods are moderating? Then go start your own forum. Took me a while to realize that one. Being here isn't some sort of right. If I was in charge I'd probably moderate differently, thankfully for us all I'm not in charge, and I stick to just reporting posts that I think don't conform to guidelines (and occasionally respond when I probably shouldn't) and if it gets edited or the user gets an infraction or nothing happens I just move on. I did what I could and the rest is up to the mods.

Yeah, but you have a conflict of interest here.

I may not use conflict of interest because I'm no longer one of the ones people guess about.

Mods know who I am and have already allowed me to stay.

Call it bias then. There is nothing useful about the people who used to follow me around and think their trump card in every argument was "well you got banned".

Instead of constantly fighting back I reported all those posts in hope that the mods would tell the posters to knock it off. I'll never know if they did or not but eventually that stuff went away for the most part.

I just don't see why returning posters are hated so much. A troll is a troll is a troll, new or not, returning or not. But for some reason people think they have carte Blanche to flame, goad, and troll those people because they came back.

You have to be an e-narcissist to keep coming back to a board that bans you.

Because 9/10 they return to the same posting patterns and behaviour that got them disliked and banned in the first place.
