Surprised U2 is not there actually. They are trying to push the whole Great Britain thing, so why not have Ireland's predominant act there?
I also agree that Oasis and possibly even Radiohead (although I doubt they would be willing to perform) should be there.

Closing the Olympics with the Spice Girls ... assuming they're last ... a little sad no? Or is it just me?

Because aside from the north, Ireland is not part of the UK.

But Ireland was part of Great Britain's team this time around (well Northern Ireland at least). So why bother differentiating in their musical acts, if they let athletes from the other nations compete as Briton's?
Forgot which part of Ireland U2 is from, and too lazy to look up, but they could have made an exception.

The PGA Championship isn't very interesting, but I'm still watching because every time I flip over to the closing ceremonies, it appears to be something embarassing. Shoulda just had Zeppelin, Floyd, Sabbath, maybe some Britpop and thats about it.

NI and Ireland are very (very) different
NI is part of GB, Ireland is not
politically it wouldn't have gone over well in England (and they would have been ripped in Ireland)

Because Ireland and Northern Ireland are 2 VERY different countries. That is like saying we should have had American acts in Vancouver.

We still had Nickelback, so that hurts us big time.
