So this has what to do with hockey?

If you're suggesting Hope "We made Christine Sinclair look better" Solo isn't arrogant, well then you should check out the YouTube clip of her throwing her own teammate under the bus at the 2007 World Cup, like literally in the post-game on field interview saying she would have made the saves her teammate didn't. Quite a beauty that one is.

I welcome all posts talking smack on Hope Solo. She is the personification of a poor sport.

To be fair they are only receiving public funds through the voucher system, so it's the idiot parents who send them to that schools fault. I personally don't think churches should be considered non-profits and be taxed accordingly and religious schools be left out of voucher programs.

I used to work in the US a lot, in several different regions. In the end it wouldn't matter to me how your citizens act if we weren't constantly inundated by American media. That being said, you can witness everything wrong with western civilization by spending some time in major US airports.
Overall i like Americans on an individual level, but as a collective you're pretty overbearing. A little humility would be nice too. Too many Americans are so busy proclaiming how they're the greatest country in the world that they don't notice they've allowed the country to rot.

I don't have anything to contribute to this conversation so i am going to share my favorite Homer quote
Son, a woman is a lot like a... a refrigerator! They're about six feet tall, 300 pounds. They make ice, and ... um ... Oh, wait a minute. Actually, a woman is more like a beer. They smell good, they look good, you'd step over your own mother just to get one! But you can't stop at one. You wanna drink another woman! (Homer Simpson)

How are you guys inundated by American media? It's an honest question. I would think that the American media wouldn't have a presence in Canada unless it was profitable and it wouldn't be profitable if there wasn't an audience for it there. The few times I have been to Canada have been on vacation where I pretty much didn't turn on the TV. Does American media have a large presence there?

Not so much news media, not directly anyways.
But everything else, from radio to magazines to newspapers to tv shows to crappy on-line news articles.
It's profitable because it's cheaper to recycle American content than it is to produce something original worth paying attention to, when catering to such a (relatively) small market.

I've worked in about 40 States over the years. I've drank beers with a lot of nice people, but some of them were completely ignorant about the world outside of their borders, hell some we're completely ignorant of their own country. I had one guy from Texas argue with me that New England was a State.
I'd say less than 20% knew where Calgary was. You name off any city with 1 million + people in it in the USA and I'll have an idea where it's at.
Maybe Global geography should be a mandatory class down there. I can only blame the education system down there I guess.
Btw, the Southern states are my favorite to work in. Awesome people live down there!

American networks are a part of basic cable in Canada, so a Canadian can watch just as much network news or sports coverage as a typical American. Fox News, NBC Olympics or NHL, etc. etc.

You've obviously never watched Canadian tv. Unless you watch "Steve and Chris" on CBC, it's all American baby.

There are a ton of US channels. And obviously there is an audience for it. There is a large audience for Big Brother, but that doesn't mean it's beneficial for society.

When NASA was preparing for the Apollo project, some of the training of the astronauts took place on a Na###o Indian reservation. One day, a Na###o elder and his son were herding sheep and came across the space crew. The old man, who spoke only Na###o, asked a question that his son translated. "What are these guys in the big suits doing?"
A member of the crew said they were practicing for their trip to the moon. The old man got all excited and asked if he could send a message to the moon with the astronauts.
Recognizing a promotional opportunity, the NASA folks found a tape recorder. After the old man recorded his message, they asked his son to translate it. He refused. The NASA PR people brought the tape to the reservation, where the rest of the tribe listened and laughed, but they refused to translate the elder's message to the moon.
Finally, the NASA crew called in an official government translator. His translation of the old man's message was "Watch out for these guys; they have come to steal your land."
