Blake and Bolt destoryed that field. Bolt is simply unbeatable when he's on though. Blake awoke Bolt at the trials and he's never looked back. Obviously the greatest sprinter ever.

I heard a segment on CBC radio the other day that explained why Kenyans and Ethiopians are the world's best distance runners. I'd be very curious to hear a similar story that explains Jamaica's sprinting domination.

What was the reason? Chased by Lions and Elephants?

It's the ganja mon, don't you know? Be easy! In all honestly it always seems the Carribean nations excel at sprinting, no doubt having optimal training conditions year round can't hurt.

The most recent issue of Sportsnet Magazine suggests Jamaica is covering up doping.

2010
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2010...ca-anti-doping

Shelly-Ann Fraser became the eighth athlete from the island to fall foul of doping regulations in 12 months.

The BBC had a piece on just this prior to the race.

One of the theories is that the slave trade played a part in this. Only the fittest survived it. Other theories are predictably, genes - and some have been isolated as being prevalent in the best sprinters. Another factor put forward by Michael Johnson was that athletics, in particular, sprinting is pretty much the national sport and there are so many heroes and role models that kids get involved to a very high degree.

What do steroids and Hurricane Gilbert have in common?

They both make Jamaicans run fast.

Well realistically when someone isn't just winning against the best in the world, but crushing them by multiple tenths of seconds, even with pulling up early, there are only so many explanations:

A) Unbelievable talent
B) Superior training
C) Drugs/Cheating

I think that to be fair most of us would take (B) off the list pretty fast; all of these countries are using similar methods and practices. So its either unbelievable or cheating basically. Could Blake and Bolt just be that much more talented than everyone else? Sure. The cynic in me says that could account for a slight win. When over a 200m race these two are ahead by nearly 1/2 a second though its hard not to be skeptical.

Great story about Ireland's first gold medal winner in 16 years, in female boxing.
