"A Kingston Police officer who had sex with a 15-year-old girl last summer at a friend’s home has been sentenced to 20 days of jail on weekends and probation for 18 months."
This is ridiculous.

I agree that it is nasty what he did and as a cop he should know better. Potentially though, the girl could have been a few months away from there being nothing wrong with what he did (legally nothing wrong, regardless it is morally reprehensible). I imagine that played into the decision on sentencing.

One of my cousins was 15 when she hooked up with her teacher, they are married and have been together for 10yrs with 2 kids.
I think judges should have the leeway to judge harshly or lightly depending on situations, and I am thankful I am not the one making those calls.

I'm sure it also played a role that it was consensual and he claims to have not known her age. Even though she was only 15 at the time, age of consent is 16. Oh and he's a cop. That may have helped.

Yes, he only gets 20 days in jail and 10 years on the sex offender list. Yes, he's slimy. However, I think his punishment is much more than what the courts handed down.
His actions resulted in him:
1) Being divorced.
2) Being alienated from his 4 children.
3) Being branded as a sex offender.
4) Never being able to work in his chosen field again.
I'm not saying we should feel sorry for him. I sure don't. This is one of those cases where natural consequences will provide far greater grief than the justice system could.

How is this any different than every other case involving a minor and rape?
I'm sure there are personal consequences to sex charges for everyone.

Just to be clear, I'm not cool with what he did on any level. He's a slimeball for sure.
I didn't say there weren't consequences to sex charges for anyone else. I was simply stating that this guy's punishment runs far beyond the 20 days of weekend jail that was handed down by the judge.
