I find that 60 posts per page is too many. The pages are too long to read through, especially if you want to find a particular post. 40 posts is just right.

After six years of ignoring it, I tried the switch to 40 per page to see what all the fuss was about.

Turns out it's just a bunch of tween hype. I'm switching back.

Is this really about page settings? Is that REALLY what this is all about? Or is it about... choices. Yes - choices.

Without choice, we are automatons. No different than a million others scrumbling along from day to day, mouthing words programmed into them by routine, performing actions by rote, believing whatever seems easiest to believe. Ordering always from the menu, screwing in one of the six approved positions, voting for one of the approved parties, drinking a mass-produced beer while watching the home team for whatever sport is most popular in their city. Driving exactly 10 km/h over the limit in one of the 10 best-selling cars of the year.

Is that you? Is the default number of pages all you aspire to? Or is there something more? Something... glorious. Take a tiny step out of the playpen into the great scary world, all golden and dangerous and wonderful and unsafe, all chaos and heartbreak, that's all it takes - maybe you go to 60 replies a page, or just suppress realtor1's spammy sig. It's up to you. There's choice out there. Are you strong enough to reach out and take it?

Yep. I voted on my iphone while taking a dump at work, so I guess I hit the wrong one.

Can I change it?

Not really, you've either changed your settings or you haven't. Even if you don't give a ****, you still fit into one of the two options presented.

My choice is to accept the default options. The options to change are not appealing to me.

So its easier to find a post by clicking through pages than having lots on a single page?

I think Rhettzky voted the wrong way too. Balance has been restored.

Sort of, I just remember what page it's on. If I'm at 60 ppp and I'm trying to find a particular post on page one, and I know it's at the bottom, why go through all the hassle of scrolling through the entire thread? I could just switch to 40 ppp and find the post at the top of page two.

So why not leave it at 20ppp and see it at the top of page 3?

I changed to 30 when I started reading more on mobile. Every page needs to be resized to be readable, which takes an extra second or two. At 20 pages this was slightly annoyingly often, but now it doesn't bother me. Since I frequent the music threads, I don't want to go higher so the pages wont take forever to load. Also, I like to read a page through before going away from long threads. If the pages are too long this can be a chore.

So absolutely the right setting is important for optimal reading experience
