Thanks for the link! Will be interesting to see how the layout will change, and how many seats on each type will go to premium economy.

I wonder if they'll do this to the Q400's too?

Oops, just read it better. 4 rows on each aircraft, 24 seats.

Here is the official press release from WestJet:
	Quote:

CALGARY, Aug. 1, 2012 /CNW/ - WestJet today announced it will introduce premium economy seating across its entire fleet. The reconfiguration will introduce four rows of extra legroom seating with 36 inches of pitch and convenience features such as priority boarding as well as complimentary on-board amenities. The reconfiguration will begin in August and will be completed in December 2012.

"We continue to evolve our product offerings to provide greater benefit and value to a wider variety of guests," said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Guest Experience. "We are confident that this new initiative, combined with the remarkable guest experience delivered by our inflight team, our reliable on-time service and our low fares will see even more guests flying with us."

As part of this initiative, WestJet will also standardize the seat pitch for the remaining rows on all aircraft to 31 to 32 inches, bringing its seat pitch in line with North American competitors.

"Details on the full product offering and how guests can take advantage of these exciting initiatives will be announced in the near future," concluded Bob Cummings.

Any word if these are coming to the 73G ?

Makes sense with the recent interline agreements and the introduction of their own rewards program.

It is for all the 737's in the fleet, my question is if the Q400's will have it.

I would doubt it, does Jazz have biz class on their Q400 ? I am still wondering if the Qs will be used alot to expand into new markets or just utilize them on current 737 markets so they can use the 737 to expand more into the US and central/South America.

I would guess yes. It's different than Jazz not having business class in their Qs, because they wouldn't have to take out a seat across (go to 3 from 4) they'll just be adding more legroom to a few rows.

They can probably do this by reducing legroom in the back. No loss of seats, but extra revenue from upselling.

I put my question about the Q's out there in a few places, and the word right now is that they will not have the premium economy.

Interesting. If I was westjet, I think I'd be trying to keep things as consistent as possible when I introduced a new fleet type, especially a fleet type that has visible propellers. Even if it was only the first row of the plane that had the extra legroom, I think it'd be worth doing.

With the expected average stage length it doesnt makes sense to have premium on the Qs. Porter has 70 seats with 34 pitch, that is more than enough.

I wonder if this will drop the 800 seat count to under 161 so they could run it with only 4 FAs?

I'm assuming this means they currently have more pitch and are taking some away?

Yayyyyyy..... WestJet has officially turned into Air Canada. You used to be cool, WestJet.

The post that started all of this yesterday specifically mentions that they will be ADDING seats to the 738's (174 up from 166).

Did a C17 Globemaster just land at YYC?

I was just chillin', living the supreme parasite life, here in Airdrie and a thundering jet was passing over, so I peeked outside and it appeared to be a C17.

Definitely not an Antonov... tail characteristics were wrong. I was doubting it's C17ness, as I didn't know Canada had any, but a quick Google search tells me we have 4.

Welcome to the year 2008.

437 Sqd. has been fully operational with four airframes for years now...thanks Harper. We needed this capacity in the worst way.
I'd really like to see us buy a couple more for that matter...and get another half a dozen 130J's tacked onto that purchase (17 aiframes/ deliveries are ongoing ATM) as well.

Our future committments are almost guaranteed to be "logistically challenging" and dumping money into the coffers of Ukraine (everytime another An-124 lifts off from Trenton) is pissing away our tax dollars for no tangible result.
The F-35 gets all the press lately but we're (finally) spending money to fix some very embarassing shortfalls with our airforce.

Also FYI? Our currently operational CF-18's are "hot-rodded" to the maximum capacity of the platform...another multi-Billion Dollar programme that few know about.
They are not a pile of "clapped out", 30 year old museum pieces. The upgraded machines are the ones that were pulled off the line when we got out of Europe,
and most of them were parked in Mountainview for ten years. The F-35 aquisition will dovetail in nicely with the end of the life of these airframes if it meets schedules...which it will.
