Arsenal has netted some nice players this offseason. I'm concerned about the players they haven't re-signed, obviously (RVP and Theo). RVP is as good as gone, of course, but I think Walcott needs to be held on to.
The rumors of Song possibly leaving are my biggest concern. I don't know if he's underrated, or just overlooked, but losing him would be a big blow.

Walcott might go? Whoa, that's the first I've heard of that.
Just read a few of the rumours. His options are worse clubs. He's not going anywhere

I'm not so sure that this is still true ... City and Juventus have pulled out of the race, so it's basically Arsenal or Man United for him now - and I don't believe Wenger will sell him to his old "buddy" Ferguson until I see it.

Not a chance he comes to United, unless he's sub-20 million. Even then, he's going to be 30 and Fergie hesitated at Snejder and he was 27.

True, but Sneijder wanted insane, insane cash.
For some reason I dont get the impression that hes leaving for more money, I'm sure he wants more than whatever he gets right now, but I dont think hes leaving Arsenal because they wont pay him.

They are only internet rumours, but apparently he was offered £130k by Arsenal, but there were stories circulating he wanted £195k off Juve.
Like I said - they are just rumours.
Taking into account our signings, I think Arsenal would be insane to sign RvP on a long term contract. My preference would be to have him play out his final year, and where he goes after that is his own business.

Great point. They did bring in a 31 yr old Teddy Sheringham, and a couple years later, that "kind of" paid off, right Diane?

I dont see him playing out the final year. Hes said he wont stay, I think they have to sell him.
£130-200 per week isnt outrageous for a guy who was one of the top strikers in the world last season. Granted, hes 30 and last year was the anomaly of his career in terms of injuries.

Yeah, yeah. Well, Suarez is a mixed bag, you just have to take what you get. Talented as hell but his antics on the field make me cringe.

I can't see that happen. Arsenal would be crazy if they didn't cash in now but forced him to stay. Plus Arsenal has brought in quite a few quality offensive players in Giroud, Cazorla and Podolski that could very well absorb the loss of RvP. I feel Giroud was brought in specifically to replace RvP.

I think you might be expecting a little too much of Giroud.

They would not be crazy at all - he is 29 has been injury prone and in the last year of his contract. How much do you think they'll get?
I'd have taken Juve's offer, but if that aint on the table anymore I think it is better to have him see out his contract and provide some continuity up front rather than strengthen either of the two Manc teams.

well obviously I don't expect him to emulate van Persie's stats or anything, I meant he was signed to replace him as the lone striker. A 4-2-3-1 with Cazorla-Podolski-Walcott behind Giroud seems pretty decent to me. If they can get Sahin on loan, the defensive part in midfield could be handled by Song-Sahin. Not bad.

not sure, it's hard to say. Kagawa was in a similar situation and United paid €15m (~ £12m). Given that RvP is better than Kagawa and he would join a rival club, he'd clearly be more expensive. I could easily see SAF pay something in the region of £20m, but I don't know what Arsenal's valuation would be.

I notice you didn't include the bit about the 1 year remaining in the contract.
Juve's offer of £8m was a fair offer.

Most places (including the Guardian today) have said the Sahin move only happens if Song is sold
in which case it's a downgrade
Sahin is a great player, Song for some strange reason (and I don't even like to say this) is one of the most underrated players in Europe and as a holding midfielder in the top handful
Madrid aren't going to let him go without a guarantee of playing time though and with Song/Arteta and potentially Wilshere later in the year he wouldn't be guaranteed a spot.
So I only thing it happens in the insane situation where they sell Song

Angry Alex....
Quote:
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be disappointed at potentially missing out on transfer target Lucas Moura, especially having failed to land Eden Hazard earlier in the summer.
It has been suggested that Lucas Moura was told by former Manchester City man Robinho the area is boring to live in, something which has angered Ferguson.
|
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...-moura?cc=5901
I dont get why this angers him? Robinho clearly hated his time in Manchester and probably knows Moura better than SAF.
So if a player tells another player that a certain city sucks based on the fact that the two players probably have similar expectations of the city they live in then who cares?
"Drat! He found out before we could trap him here!"
