I don't think i have ever seen ANYONE get called for that. However i think this call should be called more often. But not just arbitrarily in some game though. This sport is totally broken.
I still have yet to hear a good explanation of why they dont' keep real time in this 'sport'. In hockey, in football in basketball we judge things to milliseconds. In soccer it's up to the ref to decide when time is up.. seriously? hahaha it's not 1865!

Not to mention the american goalie did the exact same thing afterwards without any penalty calls.

Just an outright brutal job of reffing; she made mistakes far beyond just the third goal as well.

Exactly....cant blame the US players for the refereeing disaster.

They can keep it at their feet as long as they want.

Great game, ladies! It's tough to beat the ref, but you did beat the #1 rank team. Go out and bring home the bronze, it'll be golden for us.

Delay of game on goal kicks or throw-ins or in general dead-ball plays result in yellow cards.
But delay of game while the ball is in the keeper's hand is an indirect free kick. You never see it called ever because professional players know better and professional referee's wouldn't dare.
Could you imagine calling this infraction on Peter Schmiechel? I think the ref would be dead in 2 seconds.

if they were consistent, call it every time.
don't call delay of game with 10 minutes left for the goalie holding for 1 or 2 seconds too long...
and if you do, call the other goalie for doing it just minutes after (but of course they didn't, they weren't winning...)

Do they give out fines for those kinds of comments?

Would a 2 ref system help this sport? They definitely have enough room on the field for 2.

Any blame on anyone for that last goal is just cruel.

Its not cruel, and I'd likely blame the coaches if anyone for not telling everyone to get back fill the box.
For all the good, probably great work to that point and from the sounds, there is no reason not to have all 10 in the box to lessen the odds / have your taller player to go against the US' tallest player if crosses are flying in, with 1 minute to go.

Japan is going to run over the Americans. Far too crafty and skilled with ball control. Will frustrate the hell out of the Yanks.
Japan for the gold.

I don't blame the US Americans at all. The officiaiting/judging being questionable at IOC events is nothing new.

But it wasn't a set play where you could bring all players back, it was sort of a counter attack, sort of a broken play. Players just could not physically run back into the box. Canadian girls were hobbling the last 5 minutes...Scott could barely walk after her injury.
The US were the much fitter team. I'm amazed they ran the entire match and pressed the Canadians as much as they did.

I can't say I've seen many games that Japan won in the World Cup and Olympics, where they weren't outplayed. They are just very opportunistic.

It's not just the diving. It's the whining to the ref after every instance of contact; the needing the ref's help to beat lower-ranked teams; and especially the sheer arrogance. You could sense the arrogance from a mile away.

Japanese underestimated the French. They won't make the same mistake against the United States. 2-1-1 against the US in 2012, and win in the 2011 Women's World Cup against the Americans to win it all.
The American's are in for a task.
