Default Olympic GDT - August 5 (Day 9)

Ok, here is my go at it as some events are already on. Hope I'm not steping on icarus' toes too much.

from olympic.ca

Basketball
After knocking out Brazil on Friday to clinch a quarterfinal spot, Canada (2-2) squares off against Australia (3-1) in its last preliminary round match-up. 2000 Olympic Team veteran Teresa Gabriele leads the 2012 squad against the Aussies.

Diving
Women’s 3m Springboard Final – After a bronze medal finish in the synchronized event last week, Canadian divers Jennifer Abel and Émilie Heymans look to add to their London 2012 medal count.

Synchronized Swimming
The Synchronized swimming team of Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon and Elise Marcotte get started in the Duet competition with the technical routine. The 2011 Pan American Games gold medallists’ technical routine is called “Zipper” and is performed to a remixed version of George Granz’s “Din Daa Daa.”

I am happy to report my fears were unfounded, I did in fact get to see the women play at the beach volleyball yesterday, Italy vs Spain no less. It was awesome.

Yeah the beach volleyball sessions are pretty long, I didn't expect to see so many games when I went. I also didn't expect the men to be relegated to the side court where there was no spectator seating. Horse Guard Parade is very nice venue.

With France's win against Russia earlier, the Canada-Australia basketball game is now for 2nd in the group and to avoid 4th place and a QF against the US!

If Canada wins this game (which is fairly a long shot) they will truly have medal hopes.

4 girls left in the marathon... about to enter the stadium..

finishing 4th now would really suck

Edit: one Kenyan had been dropped. So only 3 left.. medals have been decided.

-------

Why does the chick commentator keep thinking that anyone dropped back 'is not out of it yet' and could catch up... that never happens!!!!!

Eerily similar to the Wimbledon Final. Federer mostly doing it to himself in that set.

Just doesn't look like its gonna happen for Federer today. He cannot do anything it seems, having 6 break points in a game and not converting is incredible, but not in a good way.

I keep forgetting how good del Potro is. Congrats to him on the bronze. It is well deserved.

Why did the guaranteed gold medalist for the women's vault in gymnastics choke it? Because her idiot parents named her Mc Kayla! hehe

Kyle Shewfelt was awesome. "Oh MY GOODNESS! This is like Wayne Gretzky missing an open net!"

Those Chinese badminton players were disqualified and ejected from the Olympics for "not playing to the best of their ability". Maybe Federer should be ejected as well. He certainly has been having a *VERY* off day. Murray is just embarrassing him out there thus far. But as MacEnroe said, the best thing Federer has going for him is that this is a five set game and Federer has won many, many matches 3 sets to none. He just has to forget the last two sets and start over.

Canada down 14-0 to start the game and down by 19 points at one time, is only down 5 points now at the beginning of the 4th quarter.

If Federer wins the Gold now, considering the situation, I think that would just about end the greatest ever debate.

Seriously? you are accusing the best tennis player in history and maybe one of the best athletes of all time of tanking?

Bah...I don't mind the good story of Murray on home grass. But the relative suckage of roger is annoying. Guess he peaked for Wimby and couldn't maintain for a whole month. I wonder if he had a choice which tourney he would have preferred in the end.

No. I was not serious. That was obviously supposed to be tongue-in-cheek.
