Halifax style donairs are swimming in that jizz-sauce they love so much. They even put it on their pizzas.

Whenever I see a picture of a "Halifax Donair" it looks like the most generic, processed donair ever. Almost like a cartoon donair

It seems to me the Halifax Style as well as the Edmonton style they like to brag about is akin to the old school style Donairs you used to be able to get at each Mall in Calgary back in the 80's?

^ this is pretty much it. The fakest, most processed meat swimming in donair sauce seems to be the most lauded type.

There was a Jimmy's downtown one block west from the library and I know they changed hands and now has a different name. Anyone knows if the quality remains?

I know Mezza Grill is currently on the South side of 6th Ave between the Bow and the library. Personally,I think they have the best donairs in town.

Beware though, the line on weekdays at noon is ridiculous.
I would recommend going like 10 minute before noon, to get a donair in a reasonable time frame.

Sorry for the micro-necro but I just tried this out and holy crap! I only had the $4.99 falafel and I'm blown away. Time for some meat next time!

I actually made a special trip back downtown the other day for a shawarma from Chick Pea. God I miss being right next door to that place, just so much better than all the horrible places I'm surrounded by in the NE right now.

Man, when I used to live in Calgary, there was this amazing place at... Ogden and Blackfoot I think. It was called La Rouche. I ate there pretty much daily for a few weeks, and then one day I showed up for lunch and the restaurant had burnt down the night before. I never heard what happened to that place. I hope they reopened, because the donairs were unreal and the dude who owned the place was awesome. Each donair came with a piece of baclava, which was also delicious.
Anyone know of any good donairs in Vancouver? I've tried a few, but nothing has blown me away yet.

I just moved back to Calgary from Vancouver, in the three years I lived there I couldn't find a donair/shawarma/falafel that was better than mediocre. Can't wait to try out some of the places in this thread now that I'm back.

I actually find Donairs in Edmonton to be better than Calgary but the Chicken Shawarma's better here.

I've been working in the Deer Run area. Turn right at the first set of lights east of Bow Bottom. I think it's Deer Ridge Drive. It'll be on the left side.
I used to go to Desert Pita, but the last few times I've gone there they have reduced the amount of meat. I hate places that weigh their portions.
I always go to Queen's Donair in Edmonton. Close to my in-laws and they also serve a mean donair poutine.

I was at Jimmys a month ago. They have ALOT of meat, but thats about it. The sauce is subpar and the meat seemed a bit dry to me.
They are very good, you arent hungry after a donair at Jimmys.

The other thing about Jimmys is the serivce. I used to work near there and went a fair bit. One day their interact was down, I had no cash, his mom just gave me the donair. Said that I could pay next time I was in, 6 weeks, later I paid her for 2 when I only bought one. I reminded her and she said not to worry about it.
Nice late, and not bad looking either.
