You think that's bad Universal Ford is way worse. I ordered a new car from them last year. Waited three long months for the car and during that time calling periodically for updates as the salesman knew I sold my other car and was down one in my fleet and the sooner I got my hands on this car the better. Well after getting no updates from Universal I called Ford Customer Service with the vehicle VIN and low and behold they told me Universal took delivery of the car four days ago. I called the dealer and my salesman gave me a BS story that he had food poisining and wasn't in the office and I could pick up the car the next day. When I pick the car up I do the walk around and everything looks good and I notice the odometer screen is blacked out so I turn on the odometer and there's 125 kms on a car that was delivered straight from Ford to the dealer. We have bought a lot of new cars in the past and most of them came in the range of 12 - 34 kms on the odometer. My car was the first 2012 and it appears my salesman took the liberty of driving my new car for a few days while knowing that I wanted to get my hands on it the moment it came in. I'm not sure about everyone else but I'm not a big fan of the idea of a salesman breaking in my $47k car for me. The dealer's way of appologizing was to offer me my first oil change for free. Why would I ever take my car back to a dealer that employs lying scumbags? It's a shame dealers are so shortsighted and never look further than a sale at a time as I would have likely purchased another car from them but now they are dead to me just like Honda West and Sunridge Mazda.

I think you should buy a 2 to 3 year old used vehicle, perhaps a Grand Caravan. Lot's of room, versatile, not too bad on gas and functional.

Going to check out the Juke. I don't know anything about it, but will seek out some pics today. Thanks.

Um, no. I will never drive a mini van. Plus, I have no need for such a large vehicle. And again, I am looking at new only.

Yep, like i said, it's love it or hate. Personally, i used to hate the way it looked, but it's grown on me. At least Nissan is trying something...which you can't say for a lot of car companies.
Couple good reviews on the car from TTAC, who I find are much more realistic than any big mag. (personally, the big magazines are more or less advertising arms for the companies, so i dont believe anything they say)

I have to disagree. I have a 2003 Maxima S2 6 speed. Has over 200,000 K.
I have only put in regular $ for maintenance, it is a J VIN, maybe that makes a difference.

Pretty much every current crossover/SUV is a woman's car (save for a Land Rover Defender or something of that ilk). But if that's what one is looking for, this one at least gives you some performance.

I have driven my mom's. It's the top of the line model, but it feels pretty gutless to me. A 7.4 second 0-60 is hardly going to get anybody's heart rate up. That said, I do like them a bit, but for a 20- or 30- something dude there are better choices. The fact that he is blind to the value in a used car makes it almost certain he's going to end up with something that's a bit lame and he could do worse than a Juke for sure.

Um, I'm RIGHT HERE.
And I'm not 20 something or 30 something, I'm 40 something. I'm not looking for a sportscar and I'm not "blind" to anything thanks. Bye bye now.

Or just personally values having something to new to call his own more than getting more car per dollar. I don't think he's ever argued that his dollar would go farther in the used market.
That doesn't make him blind to value, his values just differ from yours.

When you're talking cute-ute performance becomes a relative term. I look at the performance of my 340-HP AWD 300C (2005) that I bought used in 2008 for $17K (new price $56,000) or my 300-HP Mustang Vert (2005) I bought used in 2011 for $11,500 (new price $33,000ish?) and wonder how on earth somebody could even consider a Juke when they could have both these cars for about the same amount of money.

Keep in mind you're stepping into it from a Mustang. Most things will feel pretty gutless in comparison! I think for the category though, it's a fun car. Considering what he's looking for, I think a Juke is a solid option.

Hey, I hear you loud and clear. I'm with you about the used cars being a great value that allows you to step into a much better car (which is why I will pretty much never buy a new car), but he's clearly down the path of new, so that's what we have to help the guy out with.

I don't mean value as in an ethical stand, I mean value as in an objective measure of worth per dollar.

Fair enough.
Sorry Oilkiller, I am very opinionated when it comes to cars and I don't worry about people's feelings on the Internet as much as I should.
Given all your criteria and the fact that you won't waffle on it, the Juke is indeed a very solid option.
