Ugh, my credit is good enough to purchase a new vehicle. I don't need to pay off anything or owe any debtors. I've just had some issues in the past. I would like to purchase a new vehicle. I have a budget and some wants, that's what this thread is about.

Definitely don't buy new if you have a poor credit rating. You'll lose thousands just driving it off the lot. A new car isn't an investment unless you drive for a living. You can get certified used cars with warranties that will be much cheaper and get you more car.
To be honest though, based on your housing/legal situation from a year ago, you and your wife should really think twice about getting another new vehicle. It's probably an @ss thing to bring up but after foreclosing on a home, taking on more debt doesn't seem like a good idea.

To be quite honest, for the money you want to spend, you are not going to find something "peppy" that has the features you are looking for in the new car market. Especially not in Canada. Slightly used is your best bet, otherwise compromise on what you want out of a new vehicle.

There are 100's of new models out there, cars, suv's and crossovers. There may even be a mini van or two.

I would check out the Imprezza's, Lancer's or the Matrix's. The wife has a Vibe which is a Matrix in a GM wrap and loves it. It's a 2003 with 170k on it and we have had very little problems with it. The Matrix/ Vibe was a partnership deal with Toyota and GM. The drivetrain is a Toyota Corolla and the body was done by GM. Wasn't sure if they were still making them with Pontiac going T/U, but I see they still are.

I think this isn't as true now as it used to be. If you'd asked me 5 years ago I never would have thought I'd be considering buying a brand new car, but I've been watching the used market for a while now, and stuff just isn't coming down fast enough. I wanted an Escape for a long time, but the used ones were barely selling for less than new models. That's great if you're selling, but not so good for buying used.
For example, check these 2 Focus SEL's out. The new one has more options, and the used one has 30,000 miles on it, but the asking prices are only a few thousand apart.

I find that to be especially true for cars in the lower price ranges. In 2007, I bought my first new car, a Toyota Corolla. The 06 and 05 used models were 2k less. It was more worth it to buy new.
As for the OP, as previously said, check out the Ford Focus or Subaru Impreza. I have a Subaru and I love it. It was good value and the AWD is a plus. A co worker of mine recently bought a Kia Rio, the top trim, SX GDI I think. He said he likes it.

To me anyone who drives a Vibe does clearly not care about driving. It's basically a tall Corolla. There's definitely not a lot of pep in that car....unless you're coming from something really old and beat.
The Juke is actually a great suggestion. It's within your price range, and from all account that car is really fun to drive. It's styling is love it or hate it though.

Until the transmission falls out. I owned one in college. Took it in about a dozen times for various check engine lights, dealer refused to do anything about it. Tranny failed going uphill, spat fluid all over the highway. It was leased and was only a few months away from the term, so back it went. About 6 months later they issued a TSB/recall on a ton of transmissions because GM finally acknowledged that there was a problem if the transmission fails at 60k kms.
First new car I purchased, and the biggest POS I've ever driven. I had a rust bucket of a Buick Lesabre that for less than $1000, actually served me better.
Also, horribly under-powered.
(my apologies to anyone reading this that owns and likes thier vibe/matrix)
