I have an extra car charger for a S3 that I ordered from Monoprice.

I got two (1 for me and the wife) and then I got a BB car charger from work.

$5.00 should cover my cost and shipping. I also ordered a case for my S3.

Let me know of interested.

So the wife is going to be getting a new phone this fall.

Might be difficult to say just yet, since the iphone 5 details aren't officially out, but we're basically goign to pick between it and the S3. If this was for me, i'd go s3, but my wife isn't a tech geek, she just wants an easy to use smartphone.

What would u suggest?

I'm in the exact same predicament. I am a big Android fan and have the HTC Raider. At the end of the day though, my wife wants the same thing yours does. I want her to have a phone that will be easy to use and one I won't have to configure or help her with. Just easier that way. She's getting an iPhone 5.

ya i think we're leaning that way also.

I have a BB for work, so have to playout my smartphone fun through her. She's on a BB also, but likely getting the iphone when it comes out.

We also have a lot of apple stuff for our home (imac, ipods, ipad). Though, i'm cheering for android through all of this for some reason, so would have preferred to get the Samsung, but such is life.

I have a friend who has Apple everything and got the S3 today. That phone is really impressive! He had it all set in a few minutes and it's very intuitive. I think Apple should be concerned. Clearly I have no idea what iPhone 5 is going to look like, but Samsung put out a great product here.

I think it goes without saying that the iPhone5 will gain back some market share. They will probably go back and forth for a long time.

Which just makes it better for the consumer.

Just got an s3 no real set up needed. Just add your email and download the apps you want and you 'are good to go. No difference in difficulty compcared to an iPad

Hopefully it results in Apple dropping the prices. I've always stayed away from Apple products. The major reason being they are overpriced. Even the Iphone4, which is now 2 years out of date, is going for over $500. Totally ridiculous price point for a phone that is outdated in several ways now.

There was definitely a point where PC/Android products lagged for a while, but not anymore. There's really no reason to justify the Apple price point.

Or like Honda vehicles, they hold their value?

Two different ways to look at it I guess.

Except that a phone, no matter how well built, becomes horribly outdated in about 2 years. A car becomes outdated much more slowly through time. And BTW Honda vehicles are crap lately, and the latest generation of Honda vehicles has not been holding their value.

Just speaking from past experience, and while outdated, they still seem to hold their value. People will pay what they will pay. I can still sell my used iPad 2 for $350. Let's see how much people will get for a Galaxy 10" tablet right now...

They hold their value much longer on sites like Kijijji too. Where as the Galaxy S2 is already down to around $300 for pretty much a new one.

Yeah, that's the point. Doesn't mean the Apple products are any better, they simply hold their value and people are willing to pay more for older models and even used ones, over new Android devices or others.

But really, isn't it a demand vs supply issue as always? Either there is a massive shortage in the secondary market or demand is (relative to other models) substantially higher.

I guess you can debate whether the possible higher demand is due to "hype" or the apple model being "better" at the end of the day.

I got my S3 two days ago. Upgraded from a 'dumb phone' and went with Wind's $40/month plan (and they had a promotion for $200 worth of services as well).

I love the phone and I love the plan. Lots of neat things to explore.

Well, this is an S3 thread that is getting a little off track, but I have an HTC Raider that is not even a year old and if I put it up on Kijiji, I doubt I could sell it for much. It's a great phone and is running ICS with a GB or RAM and a dual core processor. I have friends who have iPhone 4S's that they could post on Kijiji and get quite a few dollars for. Right now there are 4S's on Kijiji for $350 - $500+. Not a chance I could get even $200 for my Raider.

Resale value is pretty irrelevant to me. I take phones, use them, and run them into the ground. I'm not keeping my phone in a brick sized case. I have no intention of replacing the phone every year. Every time I resign my contract, I expect my provider to give me a new phone for very cheap.

Problem being, I get a new phone and have to sign a 3 year contract to get the phone at a good price. Then a year later there are many better phones and my phone is worth nothing if it is not an Apple product. That's what kind of sucks.

Yes the resale value thing is kind of weird how Apple devices can be sold years down the road for decent coin.
With Android devices, I think it is worth it to get a device that will hold it's value to YOU. What I mean is a device that is well supported and has a large contingent of developers behind it.

I have the Nexus S. The device is essentially 2 years old. In electronics land it might as well be a cup and string. But it was the second device to get Jelly Bean and I have been running custom ROMs that keep it snappy.
The S3 is damn tempting. If it wasn't for the Nexus S I would have picked one up last month.

I think Samsung devices have a better resale value than any other Android phone.
