Default Gore Vidal dead at 86

Influential leftist American novelist and thinker dies due to complications from pneumonia.

Lisa Simpson mourns (as most of us should)

Even Gore Vidal has had more boyfriends than I have!

He was great in the movie Bob Roberts, where he played an incumbent senator in an electoral battle against ultra-right wing folk singer Bob Roberts (played brilliantly by Tim Robbins). The movie is a mockumentary, and Gore Vidal has numerous "interviews" in the movie which were apparently ad-libbed.

Frank Conniff ‏@FrankConniff Gore Vidal dreaded the idea of an afterlife, because it would mean he'd have to see Norman Mailer again. Rest In Peace.

First time on YouTube? YouTube's comments section has been a horrible wasteland of poor taste for years. Seriously they make the "Grinds My Gears" thread look like we're all Saints.

Lisa: Friends? My only friends are grown-up nerds like Gore Vidal, and even he’s kissed more boys than I ever will.
Marge: Girls, Lisa. Boys kiss girls.

No, I know YouTube comments are at the bottom of the barrel, but for some reason that comment stood out for me. Not sure why.

That's like back in June when I found out Doc Watson had died, only to find out Earl Scruggs also died a month previous. =/
