Lets conviently draw the line between good (flames) and bad (oilers) nicknames using arbitrary reasons to hide our irrational bias.

Or just admit we hates those oilers. Its ok to say dont be ashamed

That my friend, I can live with. At least you admit the bias is based upon team rivalry, those who go on about good or bad nicknames or " clever or interesting" nicknames is just so much BS.

The Big Jankowski is at least a little creative.

Nuge is to Nugent-Hopkins as "appys" is to appetizers.

I don't think its supposed to be super clever. Its a shortened version of Nugent is where it comes from not sure if you caught that. This is a commonly done thing for people in NorthAmerica maybe you'll like it a bit better with that info?

Another example is Jarome Iginla. Commonly called "Iggy" this may seem like an awful name to you as well but for some reason ive never seen a thread hijacked to discuss it.

I hate to be part of this thread hijack.. but I just have to ask this. What was wrong with Hopper? I think Brent Sutter used it to refer to RNH during an interview a few months before that draft.

It honestly looks like you're the one who hijacked this thread.

Every person as the right to like or dislike whatever nicknames they damn well please. We don't have to explain or prove how one nickname is better than the other.

If Oilers fans can come to this site spewing crap about how the Oilers are somehow a better team than Calgary without one single shred of anything to back that claim, I'm certain Flames fans can dislike Oilers nicknames without any justification.

Oh, Walter. You are such a level-headed paragon of objectivity.
