I enjoyed seeing Hank back in his element, interrogating and doing police work. I grew tired of the mineral collecting.
I enjoyed the shot of Mike and the hired hitman sitting across from one another with the Asian guys bloodied skull in the foreground.
I definitely enjoy Mike on the show. He just always seems so comfortable. Everything that happens is exactly what he expected and he's prepared. I think that's especially why I enjoyed seeing the little look he gave when he turned away from Hank and walked out of the room.
I didn't like seeing Marie in the previews for next week, though I suppose the clip they showed could be interesting. The one loose string the show never really tied up with her shoplifting. Does that eventually come back into play? This show seems to always have a purpose for what they show, but as far as I can recall, that never was mentioned again? That, and Skyler's smoking while pregnant. I suppose they don't have to have meaning, but as mentioned, they tend to not show something without it coming into play at some point.
|
I think the shoplifting thing could probably stay dead. It was just another piece of the "Marie is a spoiled brat" thing. She was expecting the Georgetown life and was bored. Thankfully she's calmed down and is more reasonable now ... or at least was.

Solid, solid episode. Just great from start to finish. Every single scene. Episodes like that is what make it the best show on television right now, imo.
Loved the scene where Hank's boss is talking about how Gus was a completely different person than he thought and he was getting away with everything right under his nose while the camera is slowly zooming in on Hank.
As for the question about Mike acting out of character, I agree with what's been said, but I still find it plausible since the feds seized everyone's money. They offered Mike the chance to keep some of his money for rolling over on his friends, so he's probably worried that someone else that's more desperate for cash might take them up on their offer (even if it's bogus). He's probably going to pay people to keep their mouths shut and the only way he can get enough cash to do that quickly is to team up with Walt and Jesse even though he knows it's a bad idea. And the only way he knows how to get Walt and Jesse the chemical they need is to keep Lydia alive for now. If they can find another supplier, Lydia is as good as dead.

I think involving Lydia will be everybody's downfall. She seems like she would do anything to stay alive and out of prison, so she will probably tell the DEA everything. Really Mike is the only one she needs to be afraid of, and if she rats on him, that's all she needs.

I watched the scene again. Walt Jr ate all of is breakfast (surprise), the empty bowl is actually that of Skyler's. Hence Walt going down to the bedroom for the "get out of bed" talk.
What an absolute awesome ending to the show; Walt being all tender as Skylar is almost paralysed in fear.

In the interrogation scene, Hank mentioned they uncovered the bank accounts.
He mentions that one goes to a local chemical supplier.
Lydia is that chemical supplier.

If Aaron Paul doesn't win that Emmy this year, it's an outrage. The scene he did a couple seasons ago, when he was in the support group, talking about the box he made in woodshop was one of the best scenes I've seen in a TV show.

And to that, the scene he did tonight where he broke down about almost shooting Walt after he 'found' the 'ricin' in the Roomba broke my heart.

I must be dead inside, but personally I hate how we rate acting performances based on them doing really emotional, dramatic touchy-feel scenes. It's as if someone doesn't have some sort of emotional scene, they get no recognition. Honestly, as good as Aaron Paul is, I enjoy him most when he's more aloof and giving great one liners. It takes a lot of talent to pull that kind of spontaneity off.
Hank, Mike and Saul I think all give amazing performances. Saul Goodman is one of the most entertaining characters I've seen on tv in a long time. Why doesn't he deserve some award consideration? Because he doesn't have internal turmoil? Personally these 3 guys bring me back to the show more than any other character. Every time we get to a touchy-feely Jesse Pinkman moment, people start looking to give him awards.... and I start looking at my watch.
But like I said, I'm dead inside.

I don't think so. I believe Chow was the chemical supplier.
Lydia was in the meeting between the DEA and the head of Madrigal (she was beside the lawyer who tells the head of the company to say "alleged" activities), so she's likely a high-ranking person in Madrigal's American operations.
It seemed like she wasn't personally on the DEA's radar yet, which is why she was freaking out that someone was going to rat her out.

I saw her in that meeting with the Madrigal people.
I guess I always assumed Chow was not the owner. I figured Madrigal was part of the supply chain as well.
Thanks for that.

I was a Bob Odenkirk fan pre-Breaking Bad (Mr Show, Tim & Eric, Tenacious D), after his first episode, I was terrified that the writers would have no idea what to do with him (due to his extensive background in fringe comedy) and he'd end up a B or C character. Instead, he's being used to his full potential and has become an anchor for the show.
I can't believe Skylar got an emmy nod. When I rewatch a breaking bad episodes, i will skip every scene she is featured in and the show dramatically improves. I realize that she's crucial to the shows arc and Walt's character, but their is zero rewatch-ability with anything she does. Now that I think of it, I don't think there has been a single female in the series worth half a turd.

Skylar is written that way though, and honestly, I am not sure if she is that much different than 95% working middle class women in North America. I am not sure what people expect from the character. How could it be better played in a realistic manner?

Skyler attempts to stop the cool person (Walt) from doing cool things.
The nagging wife in TV dramas is similar to the goofy dad on TV sitcoms. I'll admit Skyler is better then ol' whats her name on Dexter.

it's a pretty common occurring with shows like this (Rita, Carmela, Betty Draper etc.) for the wife that stops the anti-hero from being what he is
I do think Skylar is a good character, don't get the issues with her

I usually feel that if I really hate a character, the actor is doing a good job.
Skyler is being played the way she needs to be played. She's annoying and nagging. I liked her for a bit in season 4 when she was a little less pissy, and I hope she comes around that way again.

You know a show is amazing when you actually curse when the credits roll. It could be three hours long every Sunday and I would still be upset that it's over for another week.

I enjoyed the first scene when one of the Head honcho's of Madrigal is in the food tasting lab and gets to try all those different dips.
I wanted to go out and buy chicken mcnuggets right away.
That All Dressed / Ranch swirl (Franch) looked awesome.
Get on it Mcdonalds.

Franch and chicken nuggets will be what doughnuts and cherry pie were to Twin Peaks.
People will come together every Sunday night to dip chicken nuggets into franch sauce and watch Breaking Bad.

For some reason I thought those were like tater tots, and not chicken nuggets.
Some of those sauce flavors did sound ridiculously good though.
