The thing I like about him is his work ethic. You can see how he back checks and pressures guys to make a play with the puck. The kid obviously has top tier skill, who the heck wouldn't be excited about this guy? Flames fans deserve this! Awesome video Hockey_Ninja.

Yeah, that video makes it apparent that while Rattie has a decent shot, holy crap did Baertschi ever gift wrap some goals for him. Undresses two defenders and slides a pass to the wide open side of the net for Rattie. Unreal.

Rattie makes an incredible pass to Sven for a tap in and it's because of Sven's ability to find open space. Sven sets up Rattie for a tap in and it's because of Sven's play making ability.
Of course Sven is the superior player by a wide margin, but Rattie has a great sense of getting open and a smooth release. He's not just a plug who lucked out with line combos.

I would love to see Sven and Rattie together eventually in the NHL.

I guess I just don't understand why. Chances are that Baertschi will be able to duplicate any of the supposed chemistry he has with Rattie with any number of NHL players over the course of his playing career. Was there this same incessant desire to see Joe Sakic and Sheldon Kennedy back together at some point after they were drafted? Sidney Crosby and M.A. Pouliot? Patrick Kane and Sam Gagner?

Jarome Iginla and Hnat Domenichelli.
of the ones you listed I think Kane/Gagner has potential to be pretty good, might not hurt if the Hawks pursued it.

Do you equate the difference in potential between Baertschi and Rattie analogous to the pairs of players you mention?

I think his point was that junior players playing well together means squat in the NHL and thats why you rarely see teams work too hard in reuniting them

Probably not far off.
Rattie seems to have an elite shot and some good playmaking. However he is below NHL average in height and looks very weak.
I could see him being a good NHLer and it is possible he completely busts still.
Baertschi is a much better prospect IMO.

You're are probably right, but as you likely already guessed, my point in this post would further demonstrate that Kane has hardly suffered from his separation from Gagner.

Do you consider all the players I mentioned to be equals in terms of their own skill and high-end potential? I expect that the difference between Baertschi and Rattie is not too far off from others. Rattie looks like he will be a pretty good NHLer, but I simply do not see anything close to the game-breaking ability in his game as in Baertschi's

I think the difference will be similar to Benn and Backlund, with Baertschi being more like Benn

You are probably right. And I also understand that the junior game can't be compared to the NHL. However, natural chemistry is such a rare and beautiful thing to watch, that if Rattie and Baertschi both prove to be top line NHL players, I would be anxious to get them together.

I think Sven will be just fine without Rattie.
We have a Junior combo of Horak and Howse already. I know they haven't spent a ton of playing time together but they haven't set the AHL on fire yet. Chemistry doesn't always translate to the next level and I'm worried the Flames would have to give up too much to get Rattie.

They didn't play together in junior. Roberts went OHL and Nieuwendyk went NCAA.
