Situation dependent.

Drop-in? Pass every time I see em open. TRIAL BY FIRE! I would rather they learn and get comfortable than not. That said, I tend to run my mouth playfully which is counter productive
League? Set them up to succeed. Tough spot? No pass. Chance to look good? Pass. 50/50? Depends on who it is and where we are.

I do have a caveat. There's a guy I play drop-in with named Craig. Craig is terrible. Craig thinks he's amazing. Legitimately and 100% thinks he's one of the best guys out there. Runs his mouth, tries to tell people who are far better what to do, rarely passes, can't pass when he does, can't shoot (referred to as a craig shot it's just a nice easy lob at the goalie's chest, likes to use it from all places on the floor including behind his own net), first to complain and first to try and hurt a guy AT DROP-IN ball hockey. I watched him go into a corner and intentionally stomp on a guy's brand new $150 christmas gift stick (shouldn't have been using it but still...) and not even apologize and then drive home in his fancy brand new BMW SUV. I don't pass to him. Ever. He could have a back-door tap in where I could lay on the floor and push the ball to him with my nose and I have nothing to shoot and I still take the shot.

I was always the last guy picked in phys ed.... I was absolutely, terribly brutal at all team sports in addition to being badly out of shape. So I didn't play any team sports growing up. A little baseball here and there, but no hockey at all.

So last year I tried joining a few sports teams - one ball hockey and the other was mixed doubles tennis. Both were absolute disasters. I was by far the worst player at both... which was no surprise to me since I had not played either. But I was joining a rec league that claimed to welcome beginners. So at ball hockey my teammates generally used me as a pylon. They would never pass to me... they told me to stand in front of the goalie and block his view or would yell for me to cover someone, but unless I stole the ball from someone, I wouldn't have it on my stick the entire night. Tennis was worse since at least I got to "play" ball hockey. Nobody wanted me as their partner in tennis so I sat there watching from the sidelines two nights in a row before quitting. I gave up the ball hockey too. So now the sports I'm involved with are sports where you compete against yourself to set your own personal bests.... running, swimming, cycling. It is amazing just how competitive people are in a REC LEAGUE.

I played my first game last night in three years, I was struggling from the being out of shape stand point and at first was having a problem stick handling while skating and passing. As the drop in game progressed I started to get back into the swing of things even though I couldn't breath and puked a few times during the process.

Most of the game there wasn't any set positions on the ice, one would come off and yell his position and the other would take it but it was more like rec youth soccer with my team being all over the ice. Most of the guys on my squad were newer players that haven't learned the positioning part of the game so it's a learning process for them. Anyways, I was skating down the left side with the boards and made a move around the winger and had two defensemen to work around so I hit the brakes and noticed one of the trailers about 3' behind the blue line. I had the attention of both defensemen and they came on to me, this gave the trailer a great shooting lane about 4' behind the circles and so I fed him a nice soft pass for a one timer and he just stood there on the blue line and didn't even come across.

I didn't yell at him or even say anything, because I didn't think it was cool nor did I want to turn a new guy off of the game for his learning curve.

I tend to pass to anyone in a drop in since it's not a team league game and there are a bunch of new guys trying to just have fun.

What was kinda funny last night was during the morning I dug out my bag and gear and washed all the under amour and jock strap. The jock was beat up and when I put it on in the locker room it was kind of loose. I was thinking about not wearing it but my second shift I took a shot off the cup... Thank freaking god!!!

I will have try out for the university in little over a month away so I need to get back into hockey shape, the assisant coach was playing along with two other UA players.

The best part of the whole thing last night was during warmups, I was standing on the blue line waiting for my chance to shoot and playing with the puck and some guy on my team that cant skate with his head up blind sided me in the head. It knocked off my helmet but he went flying in the air it was comical to say the least. He had a good 40 pounds and 3" on me too.

Overall it wasn't bad, one SOG, Two assists, and four blocked shots. now today I'm sore in the legs but I will be okay for the drop in Wed. I left my skates up there to be sharpened since they haven't been sharpened in 3 years and I played 6 or 7 games on them before we moved.
