Default Spring 2013 Wedding Locations

Good morning all,

My fioncee and I are looking to get married next spring. Just wondering, if anyone has any suggestions on Venues they would check out (in Canmore and Calgary). So far we have looked into:
  1. Calgary Golf and Country Club
  2. Lougheed House
  3. Murietta's in Canmore
  4. Silvertip in Canmore
  5. Canmore Country Club

Anyone have any suggestions at all, $$$$ or cheap checking out anything (well Banff Springs out of price range....)

Thank you!

Have you looked into the Ranch down in fish creek? Went to a wedding down there (as well as a couple work functions) and I thought it was pretty good. I would say similar to the Lougheed house (both old house converted).

We had our ceremony at Confederation Park and our reception at Glenmore Inn.
Both venues were awesome

Little known fact, if the thread creator clicks (once? twice?) next to his thread title in the main OT area it is editable from right there.

Edit: Double click. Just tried it with my simpsons thread.

I might be in that bear trap next year as well. I have looked at the Canmore Nordic Centre and it seems like a relatively good value.

Definately, Silvertip. And I would say don't go to Lougheed house, it's small and crampy. Your wedding photos will look spectacular at Silvertip. Also, I'm not a fan of restaurant wedding. If you don't get wed at a church, then at least pick a good outdoor setting.

I just went to a wedding at the zoo in the Enmax Conservatory. It was awesome.

i am getting married at stewart creek golf club this september and the venue is amazing. it's not as big as silvertip, but neither is the minimum charge. $5000 at stewart creek and $15,000 at silvertip.

here is a link to some photos the general manager sent us from a recent wedding at stewart creek.

We got married last July - had the ceremony in the First Alliance Church just off Deerfoot in the deep SE. Rather than use their massive sanctuary (holds 1800 people) we used a multi-purpose room and it looked really nice. Staff was great to work with and no rental fee for church - just custodial, sound tech, and an honorarium for the pastor (at your discretion).

Reception was at the Century Hall in Cranston, and we got a ton of compliments on it as it looks nothing like your typical community hall and it's very new and clean - hardwood floors, wood beam ceiling, stone fireplace in the corner and nice lighting. It's not huge so it would depend how big your reception will be - we fit around 90 people in there comfortably with the dance floor left open the whole night, and room for buffet tables as well - you could definitely fit a few more tables in if you wanted.

Trust me... go on a Caribbean cruise and get married.

You'll get a way bigger bang for your buck and you and your guests will have a lot more fun!

Never could understand why people are willing to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a 1 day event. Waste of money in my opinion.

I've always wondered, do these places cash in just because it's a wedding? Could you get the same venue, service, etc for cheaper if you just said it was a family reunion or something?

Can just anyone rent the basement of chicken on the way or do you have to be in the club?

Yeah but you're asking your guests to fork out lots of cash and sacrifice 7 days of vacation to attend your crappy wedding. Puts people that are legitimately happy for you in the bind of choosing between your special day (and they may genuinely want to attend) and money and vacation days.

People always wonder (and get offended) when people pass on invites to destination weddings....

One thing

If you think you can't afford an expensive wedding chances are you wont like the price of the divorce.

Exactly. My wife and I tossed this idea around as well and we came to the same conclusion.
