I really don't want to know.

It's interesting though about what the increased security says about society. That being that there is a threat about some nut job looking to do it bigger and better than this individual. It brings me back to a comment I made earlier in the thread about not sensationalizing these individuals in the media.

Im not certain but, I think a Canadian with a restricted PAL could own the equivilant weapons to the ones this fellow had. With a little internet knowledge most semi-autos can be converted to full automatic. The term "assault" rifle just means it is made to look military. They are no more dangerous than a regular semi-auto.

From what I've read no one was carrying a weapon within the theater. The guy ran out when the two security guards came in the theater with hand guns. He ran even though he was wearing body armour.

This guy obviously has mental issues but, still he didn't want to die. One wonders if he would have attempted this stunt at all in a place where people would likely have been allow to carry a concealed weapon; Or would he have ran as soon as he was shot at?

President Obama just ordered all flags to half staff until sunset on July 25th. I'm off to lower ours.

What I don't get is media doesn't even need to sensationalize stories anymore. Twitter and social media does that for them really. Still I agree, I hope it doesn't get to the point where we are so much more concerned about potential incidents than living our lives in freedom.

Shame on the media/political establishment for using this tragedy to justify signing the UN arms treaty....

Too bad nobody in the theater was packing. Is it true that the guy had a smoke grenade?? What gun store do you get those from..?

Can't stop reading about one of the victims, Jessica Ghawi. It's eerie to read her tweets about having to convince a friend to go see Dark Knight from last night.

I really think the talk of guns, or how to stop others from shooting up movies or schools can be saved for another thread. The victims are the ones who need to be remembered...

It wouldn't surprise me if the government mandated naked body scanners and TSA gropers to "keep people safe" at movie theaters.

I knew 2 people that were at the theater during the shooting.

It's crazy how there are such garbage people in our world. Go shoot yourself if you are unhappy with your life, don't shoot innocent people. Absolutely disgusting and makes me so upset.

Just reading about the guy.... more and more sounds like that guy I referenced earlier to the T. Its creepy, and a little scary. Little tidbits that sound familiar:

Quote:
He was a very smart guy though. He was a little bit of a weird guy, but we were honors students, so weird people were kind of common."
Quote:
Officials told NBC News that all four were purchased legally, beginning in May, from two national chain stores: Gander Mountain Guns and Bass Pro Shops.
Quote:
Holmes' family, who live in Rancho Penasquitos, a well-to-do suburban community in the northeastern part of San Diego,
Quote:
"He was a nice guy. Who very much wanted to be liked and wanted," the woman said. "He was a very, very smart guy. I honestly can not believe he could do this. I know, I know, everyone says that. But it is truly devastating to me.
Quote:
The Denver Post reported that Holmes, in an apartment rental application he last year, described himself as "quiet and easy-going."
Quote:
"He was really, really mellow, really calm. You wouldn't even look twice at him, if you passed him on the street."
Quote:
"He looked so calm when he did it," an eyewitness told NBC affiliate KUSA. "It was like scary. He waited for both the bombs to explode before he did anything. Then, after both of them exploded, he began to shoot."

Very sad story. Condolences to the victims and their families. Terrible.

The thing that also bugs me about these stories is that pictures of the suspect end up splashed across the page of every media outlet. The victims end up just being statistics. I know they need to report the news but they always seem to go overboard with coverage of the suspect.

You keep talking about all fire arms yeild the same result, that being death. So let me ask you, when you go hunting do you ever use a pistol? Based on your arguments, its no better or worse at killing than rifle.

No of course you dont, you use a gun best suited to kill what ever it is you want to kill. So there is a HUGE difference between all firearm types. They all have varying killing purpose.

If I want to cut a steak, im going to use a steak knife. Yes I could use a butter knife and the results would be the same, however its going to take much longer and wont be nearly as efficent will it.

After reading about this guy a bit, I can't help but wonder if he had some kind of pharmaceutical melt-down.
