Agreed, but there is no reason to expect any kind of culture shift in the US that would allow for this. Hell, this is at least the fifth notable spree shooting/massacre in the US this year alone.

Give it time and we'll need metal detectors and armed guards at grocery stores or church. Again I just cannot think of a punishment that will inflict enough suffering on this guy. Getting executed by lethal injection just isn't enough pain and misery.

Oh please. What's naive is the constant denial that the gun culture in the US has nothing to do with these incidents.

I dont care what his name is.
I really wish these people were known only as "the shooter" no face, no name, nothing.
Report the crime not the criminals identity. Mention town, place, whatever but no names let them go down as just a nobody in jail/history.

In case you were wondering, reuters with a list of the mass shootings worldwide in the last 25 years. Sucks that there have been so many they are hard to recall without the list:

That his mom knew right away they had her son is pretty telling...
Quote:
A San Diego woman identifying herself as James Holmes's mother spoke briefly with ABC News this morning.
She had awoken unaware of the news of the shooting and had not been contacted by authorities. She immediately expressed concern that her son may have been involved.
"You have the right person," she said.
"I need to call the police," she added. "I need to fly out to Colorado."

Not just that but also the subsequent cycle of Americans now arming themselves for 'defense'

That isn't the problem - increasing the number of guns in people's hands in response to yet another mass shooting is idiotic logic. Actual gun control is what is required in order to prevent people from having access to assault rifles, there are many things that I like the United States for and but the apparent right to own a gun based on what was written 200+ years ago is not one of them.
I know that a gun is the same as a hammer or a knife and it is the person controlling it but I can't remember the last time in which there was a mass murder/shooting that didn't involve someone walking into a crowded place with an assault rifle and handgun.

In your second post in this thread you said it was the ease with which pyschos can get guns that's scary.
That's not gun culture. That's gun law.
Gun culture in the US has nothing to do with it. Gun law might.

it is funny how the cycle works
most any other tragedy that involves mass deaths afterwards people rally around a way to prevent it from happening again. But when it comes to guns being involved the opinion is so polar opposite, less guns for some and more guns for others.

Huh? It's absolutely normal for a person to be packing heat in many states. Gun laws, especially terrible ones like the U.S has leads to a country of a bad gun culture.

That's nuts, what motivates a guy to do something like this? Did he just rage about not getting his tickets or something?

It's both, and they are related. People believe it's their God given right enshrined in the constitution to own and carry firearms. Guns evolved dramatically in the last 200 years, but the laws really haven't. It's almost impossible for any politician to enact meaningful gun control legislation because the NRA is far too powerful. Guns are easy to obtain for almost anyone because there are loopholes to avoid background checks like purchasing at gun shows ect. A lot of Americans truly believe the solution to these incidents involves more citizens carrying concealed weapons that would defuse these situations immediately.

I doubt that, since they are now saying his apartment is booby trapped. This was planned out in advance.
