Default Let's Talk Briefcases...

I'm in the market for one and don't even know where to begin to start looking.

Brands, options, styles? No idea.

What do you people like, what works what doesn't, what are the better brands to look for? Where to get them (online probably but the interwebz is a vast and untamed jungle)?

Seriously, a briefcase?

Why would you even want one, it's not even a need in this day and age. Every now and then you see an older guy with one and it's weird.

A friend of mine once told me "If I win the lottery, there will be a picture of someone I hate, and 50 thousand dollars at your Door in a BRIEFCASE. If you poop in front of the person that the picture is of in a public place, there will be another BRIECASE. This will go on as long as you are willing to keep going." Needless to say, I hope a BRIEFCASE shows up so I can recommend one for you.

I just use my laptop bag when I have that much stuff to carry around.

I carry a Filson. Not really a traditional briefcase, a little more rugged, but they are a high quaity item, last forever and Filson is a great company. Highly recommended.

Not necessary a traditional briefcase, but Tumi carries some really nice travel laptop bags and such. Not cheap stuff, but they are built well and should last (at least that's what I'm counting on!).

I eventually want something from these guys:

I have their iPad case and it's awesome. I can only imagine how nice their briefcases are.

Not even the oldest of old balls use a briefcase anymore. Get yourself a quality leather folder and go with that.

Get one that's covered in snakeskin or fur. Nothing screams "BALLAH" like snakeskin or fur.

I can't believe the disdain for briefcases here. I have one and have used it for a few years. Before this one I had a Danier case that I loved, but the clasps wore out.

I guess it depends on what you do for a living, but I use mine constantly and I think it portrays a nice image, for whatever that's worth.

Bottom line is if you're over 16 years old and are still using a backpack, you look like a goof. Backpacks are for kids. If you work in an office type environment, there is probably a good chance you have to transport some sort of documentation to destinations outside your office. Having a nice briefcase is a great way to show a little bit of style all the while having something really useful to kep a lot of useful items in when you are outside the office.

My wife bought me a briefcase so that I would look more professional when visiting farmers and businesses in my attempt to draw up additional business (banker), but I can't seem to take it out of my car trunk.

I don't have the heart to tell her.

Just don't want to feel like an stereotypical stuffy old guy.

Or that you enjoy the 80's.

What kind of briefcase are we talking here? If its one of those hard cases with combo-locks then ya, I see the hesitation. I would only use a soft-side, leather case really.
