Icon56 Pavelec chrged with DUI

http://www.calgarysun.com/2012/07/16...-drunk-driving

Quote:
The Jets No. 1 goalie, signed last month to a five-year contract worth nearly $20 million, was reportedly charged with driving under the influence after crashing his car in his native Czech Republic.
According to Czech media outlet Nova Sport, Pavelec rear-ended another vehicle while driving his BMW M6 in May.
No word on whether or not the Jets knew of this when he re-signed earlier this summer.

Says he had a BAC of 0.2, that's pretty blitzed, what a dummy.

Something tells me he could afford the ride/taxi.

Edit:
That was a different accident, 2 DUI's in 2 months?

What a moron. Pavs has the World at his feet. Not even 25, starting goalie in the NHL, and just singed for nearly $4 million/season, and he is foolish enough to nearly blow it. Thank God nobody was hurt.

No excuse, this is terribly reckless and stupid. Too bad so many athletes seem to think this is acceptable behaviour

Too many people in general. Imagine how many people do this and get away with it? I'm guilty of it too. The difference between me and this guy is his life will go on whereas my life would be drastically affected.

Hopefully this was a reality check for him.

I honestly don't get it though. If I had that much money, I wouldn't be driving myself around a lot of the time, and especially if I was drinking. He has the luxury of being able to get wasted and not have to worry about how taking a cab or limo would affect his finances.

If the DUI did indeed happen in May, I hope the Jets have some kind of clause that will invalidate his contract if Pavelec gets in trouble again, or does not get treatment for a possible alcohol problem. Winnipeg sure does not need another Patrick Kane.

The sad thing is I'm willing to bet most teams have a player who's been charged with a DUI. It might be a product of how little the consequences are when your job that pays you millions a season is still there during and after all the legal trouble is sorted out.

Players need to be reminded of what happened to Tim Horton and Pelle Lindburgh.

Czech republic has totally different laws when it comes to drinking. Not that I'm saying it's ok. Glad no one was hurt. Stupid move none the less.

From what I've read Czech Republic is zero-tolerance when it comes to drinking and driving. So he may be worse off than here, though it looks like he's not going to be hard done by either way.

If the experience doesn't seriously change his approach to alcohol, it will drastically affect his life also.

Crazy as it sounds if he was 0.1 he probably would have called for a ride, the more you drink the more stupid you become.

I've been to the Czech Republic and they definitely drink there. Read some crazy stats about the average number of drinks per day.

If anybody can afford taxis it is elite athletes.

I believe they drink more beer per capita than any other country in the world.
