So I am going to Kelowna for an extended weekend. Its been a while since I have been there.

Just wondering if anyone can suggest things to do other than kill my skin cells on the beach. Any good eateries, etc etc.

I would love to try out the golf but sadly thats not what this weekend is for (or so I have been told )

Is the Willow still open. Skanky strippers, Hell's Angels and cheap draft, let the fun begin.

The Willow was torn down.
My favorite lunch spots are:
Cecils Palace of Perogies
Woodfire Bakery
Pearson European Deli
Jimmy Ho's
Mediteranean Market if you just need to grab a sandwich on the go. They're huge, fantastic and pretty cheap.

Dinner:
Ricardo's (closer to Winfield)
Christophers

Pubs:
Tonics
Roses (for the patio)
Kelly O'Briens (appies are great. I miss pachos and mckracken rolls)

I just got back from the Okanagan area (we stayed 5 days in Penticton and 5 days in Kelowna).

We didn't do it this year because we have kids now, but last time we were there we rented scooters. That was a blast and didn't need a motorcycle license. There are a lot of people on scooters, so it looks like most people are aware. We rode through the countryside over to this goat cheese/ice cream shop at the top of a mountain. It was pretty good time. We also rode up Knox Mountain Park, which was pretty fun too.

If you've got your Class 6, then renting a Harley is pretty fun too.

You could rent a boat or jet ski or you could try SUP boarding. It's supposed to be the 'in' thing to do now and all it is you stand on a surf board with a paddle and you can go along the shoreline of the lake and check stuff out. It's supposed to be a great ab workout too. I never tried it, but a bunch of people were doing it.

You could do a winery tour.

As far as eateries, I can't really recommend one, but you could probably find something good to eat downtown on Bernard Avenue.

Hope this helps.

Wineries - even if you don't like wine, some wineries have excellent views and restaurants.

Wineries with great restaurants:

Near Kelowna - Quail's Gate, Mission Hill, Grey Monk.

Naramata - Hillside

Peachland has a good popular German restaurant on the water.

Gray Monk patio has to be one of the best lunch views you can get and their chef was named Canadian Chef of the Year last year by the Canadian Culinary Federation of Chefs and Cooks (CCFCC) . My wifes favorite wine is from there and about 10 minutes from my parents house so we're there at least once everytime we go back to the valley.

minstrel does have good food - but man is it ever expensive!! ....and i've found the waitresses rather snobby.

some friends and i were playing a gig there about a year ago and my wife and folks came to watch. all they had to eat was a burger and maybe a pop and it was around $65-$70.... that's a little pricey in my books for 3 burgers and 3 cokes!

Do you mean free tastings? Most big wineries have a tasting fee that is waived if you buy wine.

Also, depending on the server, they will waive the fee if you stay and chat for a while.

I went a long time ago, but after reading your post the memory cleared, we were late leaving for our tour and they kept us in the little cabin, feeding us win, in fact at one point they just opened it up and asked if there was any wine the group wanted to try. They opened a bunch of higher end wines, course was was mid 90's, long time ago

If you need to impress the wife, maybe a couple nights at Sparkling Hill Resort. Send her to the spa for the day, roll down the hill for a quick 18 at Predator Ridge and be back for dinner when she's done at the spa. Everyone wins.

Summerhill used to (not sure if they still do) free tastings of everything but the ice wines. Their sparkling wines are really good. The wines are also of course excellent, I'd recommend the foch, but I like dry red wines more than anything else. The tours there were free last time we went, but I am not really into that hokey pyramid power stuff, but a lot of people eat that stuff up.

House of Rose also does free tastings, but really its a small winery and not much to tour. The prices can't be beat though for a case of wine.

Not too far from there there are the lavender gardens. Smells nice, but wouldn't go out of my way to visit unless you were doing something else around east kelowna.

When I was younger we also used to take an air mattress down Mission Creek.. you end up at the Eldorado Hotel at the end, and their restaurant is quite good.

Other things - Memphis Blues, which is like Big T's here, in fact the menus are very similar.

Lots of hikes that are fun.. Paul's Tomb (if you bring goggles or a mask you can see the old Ogopogo statue from city park that was sunk there). You can bike or hike up to the top of Knox Mtn for some good views, Bertram Park is a nice picnic area with some hiking around Okanagan Mtn (also close to the Summerhill winery) and on the way there are some u-pick cherry orchards which everybody in my family loves to do when we go back to visit.. except the ladders are hella scary that they provide.. If you bring a bike, the ride from downtown Kelowna to Bertram Park is good (and you pass a very small nude beach).

And yeah, the Willow is gone.. there are some new places but I think they've closed as well (Cheetahs?)

There is also a really good restaurant downtown on Bernard that specializes in grilled cheese sandwiches. Forget the name though.

the simpsons - they have an epsiode to cover almost every life situation.......

i was thinking that if she suggests a wine tour, give her the "that is not what the trip is for"......

my ex-wife used to be a cow about crap like that, while my current wife is far more understanding and would be ok with me golfing - although as a trade off, i'd go early in the morning and try and be back for lunch and some afternoon activity....
