So, by the end of today, there should be a new total attendance record, with one day remaining.
My plan is to be the record-breaking attendee when I go through the gates on my way to the Brad Paisley concert tonight. Can't wait!

Hopefully the weather holds off as we hope to see the fireworks later tonight.

Soccer too. Heart stopped right in the middle of the field.

1) Grudging congrats to the Stampede for the record attendance.

2) I was banned from OT for a week, so I guess this is it for me in Stampede threads. Sorry to all who were having fun with the ribbings and back and forth just like every other year.

If they occurred at a similar rate...then sure. Let me remind you that hockey is a human choice, unless you can speak to the horse I'm not sure its their choice to be in front of thousands of people, loud noises, and racing beyond their limits. If your gonna compare something at least make it equivalent.

The pleasure of watching some horses run around in a circle is no less noble than the pleasure of chomping down into a hot wing just dipped in ranch. You don't need that hot wing. Actually it is bad for you, you are killing the chicken for something bad to yourself.

Its like the guy in Athens chewing on human arms dipped in bbq sauce saying "The outrage of these fights to the death, someone must put a stop to this".

and hey, I'm the same. I don't want to watch the things I eat get killed, I'm a coward that way.

We use animals on this planet for our needs, shouldn't pick and choose cause one causes you discomfort.

The treatment of horses in this (boring ass) event is probably one of the tops in quality of the list on how we treat animals on this planet.

If iginla and jhunt and nesevenen don't eat meat, then yes your arguments are solid. I don't agree with them, but they are full of integrity and lack any hypocrisy.
Some of these comparisons are borderline moronic.
A food source compared to entertainment... really?
I'm sure many animals are being mistreated all the time, however you can only deal with one thing at a time.

Im sure there are and those who want to effect change about that should focus on things where animals are truly mis-treated, which is simply so far from the reality when it comes to wagon horses. These animals are treated as well as any on earth.

Than deal with the bigger problems?

The hypocrisy of the argument astounds me.

Calling chicken wings bathed in hot sauce a "food source" is like calling sex with a hooker romance.

A few things:

1. I've been to the chuckwagon races twice. Both times there were incidents that caused horses to die. That was enough for me to stop going to the races.

2. It's obvious most people don't know what hypocrisy really is. By definition it's taking a moral or principled stance you secretly don't practice. Being against animal entertainment, like the chuckwagon races, while eating meat is only hypocritical if you're sneakily going to the races.

3. I'm craving a corn dog something fierce right now.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I stoked out a place on high ground near cemetery hill and I caught the downtown fireworks with the Heritage Park ones. Maybe not as awesome as seeing right up close, but there is something pretty cool about watching a display to your north, then turning around and watching a display to your south.

Well done Stampede. Well done. Happy 100th. Proud to be Calgarian.
