I think the Magic very much view Howard like a cancer at this point. Best for the long-term health of the organization to cut the cancer now even if it means accepting a less than solid return. Orlando's GM is from the San Antonio/OKC school of building through the draft, so I think he values picks more than players.

Lakers-Rockets-Magic 3 way deal is getting some traction now.
Of all the scenarios this might be the best one.

Marc Stein:
Blake Griffin's five-year, $95M extension, soon to be signed now that annual moratorium on new biz is over, contains opt out after Year 4.

Way too much money, Kevin Love is a way better player than he is and that contract extension for him was a I guess a steal now.

Houston is easily the most desperate team in the league. They are willing to let Bynum or Howard walk as rentals (meaning they would trade for either without a contract extension in place) which to me seems insane, but they are desperate to land some kind of star.

Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis signed their deals and introduced with the Miami media.
James, Wade, Bosh, Allen, Lewis, Chalmers, Battier, Haslem, Miller, Cole, Jones, Anthony.......
That is a really deep team.

Still undersized. And health (Allen, Lewis, Miller) will be a concern. But if they can stay relatively health, they'll be hard to beat.

Add Wade to that list, his body is breaking down and even though it's hard to believe he is already 30 years old.

At least Rashard Lewis doesn't have to wear a ski mask with a gun when he goes to collect his paychecks anymore. One of the most overpaid players in league history.

This might get pretty annoying by the time its done. As if its not already...

After spending most of Tuesday negotiating with Rockets and Lakers, Orlando has re-engaged Brooklyn today, league sources tell Y! Sports.

He is still getting paid, even though he was amnestied, correct?
The guy brings a bad presence to the dressing room, I am sort of surprised the Heat would want to bring him in at any price.

Yes, being amnestied simply means not counting against the cap. I agree I find it strange the Heat signed him, they'd be better off finding a better role player committed to the team, and Rashard really doesn't strike me as that.

Rashard is a joke. So glad he signed with that team, hopefully he ruins them.
Dwight Howard is going to be one hated man. Hopefully it's as a Laker when it's all said and done.

If Rashard didn't work out, it's no big deal for the Heat to cut him. You couldn't buy a bag of chips in the NBA for $1.3M so it'll be no big lost for them anyway.

Dwight should just admit he has a vagina and go join the WBNA. I'd be more inclined to watch WNBA basketball then (who am I kidding, that still won't happen)

Brooklyn officially is out of the Dwight Howard trade talks and re-signed Brook Lopez to a big deal.
So Howard to the Nets will not happen.

The NBA is going to be pointless to watch until next June if the Lakers get Howard. It's basically a lock for Lakers-Heat. Which makes me wonder, who's gonna watch that? Outside LA and Miami, most people hate both teams.

Linsanity is heading to Houston, New York will not match the offer sheet
Quote:
The New York Knicks plan to let Jeremy Lin join the Houston Rockets and as of 4 p.m. ET have decided not to match the offer sheet the point guard signed with Houston, The New York Times reported Tuesday, confirming what two sources within the Knicks organization had told ESPN's Stephen A. Smith on Sunday.
The Knicks have until 11:59 p.m. ET Tuesday to announce their decision whether they will match Houston's three-year, $25.1 million offer sheet or release Lin, who became an international phenomenon during a dazzling February.
The Times reported that the Knicks aren't expected to announce their decision on Lin until Tuesday evening but that the team's deliberations on Lin's future had ended.
A source told ESPN.com's J.A. Adande that the Rockets haven't been notified yet of a decision by the Knicks.
A team source told ESPNNewYork.com's Ian Begley earlier this week that the third year of the Rockets' offer -- worth $14.8 million -- caused the Knicks to consider letting Lin go. If the Knicks matched the offer, they would have been subject to a luxury tax in the third year, potentially bringing their total out-of-pocket cost for the team's salary to about $43 million in 2014-15.

Even though I don't think Lin has proven himself to be worth such a deal, at the same time the Knicks other options are fat (Felton) and old (Kidd). They also could waive Lin after year 2 if he's not worth it, but in terms of pub and jersey sales, he would obviously help the Knicks there.
