Really, why didn't they just leave one parent in the car while the other did the shopping?

As a parent of a 3-year old, I realize that at that time of night they often fall asleep in the car, and waking them up is not always the ideal choice. If my wife is with me, I will wait in the car with the girl and roll all the windows down. If I am alone, I make the choice - wake up the girl and go shopping, or save the shopping for another time.

Forget about the arguments about how hot the car is going to be at that time of the day. It is really about being a responsible parent, and I'm not sure how you could argue that the parents in the article were being responsible.

I don't think anyone is. Most people, imo, are saying the heat was not the worst thing to be concerned about.

I think some posters are just having flash backs to when they were kids being left in a hot car.
