May be generalized, but couldn't help but relate Joey B's night to a Bluejays season, maybe even this one.

Starts off with a pop, and so much promise. (11Hr in R1 to be the outright leader)

2nd stage, cools down considerably, but still in the hunt....but at same time almost falls out of it.

A blip of excitement (wins the swingoff to get in the final) to pull everyone back on board.

Holds own in final stage with decent showing but never really looks to have enough to overtake the leader (finishes 5 hr's behind Fielder in Final).

Full credit to JB and Fielder. Pretty awesome from both guys...takes a lot out of them to have to hit that many pitches and concentrate see that many lob balls.

Interesting little tidbits from the HR Derby:

From Elias: Prince Fielder won the 2012 Home Run Derby. Fourteen of the last 17 Home Run Derby winners have been left-handed batters. Sammy Sosa (2000), Miguel Tejada (2004) and Vladimir Guerrero (2007) are the only non-lefties to win the Derby since 1996.

From Elias: Five of the last six Home Run Derby winners have come from an American League team: Vladimir Guerrero in 2007 (Angels), Justin Morneau in 2008 (Twins), David Ortiz in 2010 (Red Sox), Robinson Cano in 2011 (Yankees), Prince Fielder in 2012 (Tigers). The exception came in 2009 when the Brewers' Prince Fielder won it.

Prince Fielder participated in his fourth Home Run Derby (2007, 2009, 2011, 2012). Only two other active players have participated in as many Home Run Derbys as Fielder: David Ortiz (five) and Lance Berkman (four). Ken Griffey, Jr. holds the record by being in eight Derbys.

Jose Bautista's appearance in the Home Run Derby marked the 13th time the Blue Jays were represented in the event, the most for any major-league team. The Blue Jays who have participated were Jesse Barfield (1986), George Bell (1987), Joe Carter (1991, 1992, 1996), Shawn Green (1999), Carlos Delgado (2000, 2003), Troy Glaus (2006), Alex Rios (2007), Vernon Wells (2010) and Bautista (2011, 2012).

Carlos Gonzalez was eliminated in the first round of the 2012 Home Run Derby after he hit only four homers. Gonzalez entered the competition homerless in his last 74 at-bats, the longest current drought for any of the eight players who competed in the event. It's also the third-longest single-season streak of homerless at-bats for Gonzalez, behind a 78 at-bat schneid in 2008 and a 75 at-bat dry spell in 2011.

Andrew McCutchen hit four home runs in the 2012 Home Run Derby. McCutchen is the fourth Pirates player to participate in the Home Run Derby. Those four players have combined to hit six home runs in the Derby: Bobby Bonilla (no homers in 1990), Barry Bonds (two in 1992), Jason Bay (zero in 2005) and McCutchen.

McCutchen hit two home runs in the Pirates' 13-2 win over the Giants on Sunday, the day before the Home Run Derby. McCutchen was the fifth player to participate in the Home Run Derby after hitting two homers in his final game before the All-Star break. The others to do it were Ryne Sandberg in 1985, Jeff Bagwell in 1997, Sammy Sosa in 2001 and Brandon Inge in 2009.
