Is there's some sort of tax they could introduce that would protect this treasured monument from such atrocities... say a bridge tax of some sort?

When Druh Farrell doesn't get elected next term, maybe the City could set her up in a toll-booth at the north end as a consolation prize?

Any pictures of the clean up?

I could see the City using some random red paint they found in a shed somewhere to cover them all up. Either that or using some eco-cleaner which takes the black paint off, but leaves a silhouette of the original design - either way, I don't see it ending well.

Bumping this with some info on the usage counts, this was tweeted by Druh a few minutes ago:

It makes sense that volume would increase as the weather improves.

That's all well and good but I'll throw this out there, the Bridge does nothing to inspire me.

It's still stupid that there isn't a crosswalk on the north end and there is nothing but mud and narrow paths on the south end...

I don't give a flying crap what the people who did that survey think they want. The way the crosswalk over memorial is right now is the dumbest piece of city planning.

Right? It looks like a set of Chinese fingercuffs. My kid could have designed a better bridge.

I just looked at the bridge and there was no one on it. I will report back later.

The South end will change. It was the staging area, and there will be a development on the south side. Pathways there now are temporary.

City studying potential changes on the North side.

More on the usage counts:

It looks like a Taiwanese Testicle Trap.

They could have built an interchange at Crowfoot Way and Crowfoot Crossing Crescent Circle!

I like it, it's more creative and fun than the rest of the #####ty pedestrian bridges in this city.

The river would be the perfect spot to build an 8 lane freeway that goes from Cochrane to Okotoks via downtown. WAY more people would use that...

Don' forget a multi-level structure! What's better than one freeway? Eighteen.

Well now that the bridge has been in place for a while, found an article that helps put some perspective on the value of ours:

http://www.calgaryherald.com/touch/s...762&rel=841484

That is what Edmonton spent 28.2 million on. I would say ours is just slightly better designed.

Another homage to the Oil Derrick, at least Edmonton is consistent at sucking at everything.

When are they going to finish the Peace Bridge? They still have chain link fence near the entrance of the bridge at the Memorial Drive end.

I'm not typically into the Calgary vs Edmonton thing, but I vastly prefer our bridge. I'd be disappointed with that thing if I lived in Edmonton.

Last week, while waiting for a friend on the bridge, I met a couple from California who were just THRILLED to see the Peace Bridge. Loved that it was a Calatrava design, thought it looked amazing.
