Filppula overrated? No, Cammalleri is overrated - now, he was good sure, but he haven't shown anything which implicates he will have a bounce back season. Filppula is a very solid 2-way player with a good hockey IQ and great hands.
Sure, Flames do need a Sniper as for now, so okey, I agree: Cammalleri is the right choice for this team, sure.
and no hate, I do like Cammalleri, but if he doesn't step up much from last year, then I'm sure he's not a fan favorite anymore.

We can agree to disagree.
Like I said, I'll take Cammalleri easily.

Really?
In his short return thus far in Calgary he was on pace for close to a 30 goal season.

82-game pace of 32 goals, actually.

count me in as someone who would take Cammalleri over Filppula 10 out of 10 times. It's not even close in my opinion.

Of course because you guys haven't seen him play as much as Cammalleri, so that makes sense..
Just feels like you guys are still high on that 40 or 39 goal season, whatever. I'd take Filppula anyday.

I'd take Cammy too, but it's a lot closer than you think IMO. I think Filppula is pretty underrated.

My sense is Filpulla is better in his own end which may decide matters. He is not a pure sniper, Cammalleri is. If you need goals, you want Cammalleri. I think the Flames need his shot more than they need what Filpulla offers.
Everyone seems to hate this signing. I'm going with about market, and fills a hole... but Shane Doan would be the real coup. However, while this is a fine addition, it's still kind of befuddling - signings like this and Wideman (which is in my view an awful contract) make me wonder just what the hell Feaster's long-term vision for the team actually is. Right now it looks like he's just treading water and hoping they're sort of kind of competitive while he figures out what to do.
This whole thing may make more sense if JBo is traded, and perhaps others, and the prospect pool depth is improved by summer's end.

Considering Filppula has exactly 1/2 the caphit as Cammalleri, one would expect the latter to be a lot BETTER.

Doan wasn't going to sign with anyone until at least July 9th (today), pretty tough for Feaster to just sit there and wait it out, even then there was no guarantee Doan would leave Phoenix............he mentioned before that he was going to be more proactive on July 1st, he/they saw a player they wanted and went out and got him. Can't blame him too much for passing on Doan.

He couldn't wait until mid-july to fill a 2nd line wing spot? I'm not sure I buy that one. That being said, I guess what I mean is that if they go out and get Doan now, that would really get the top 6 in shape to take a believable run at a playoff berth. Now, however, I'd think the money makes it contingent on something happening with Bouwmeester.

I don't think Filppula was offered a massive contract coming off a career year, scoring 39 goals either.

I don't think they passed, I think the price was too high to trade for his rights (4th and a 3rd, 4th and a 2nd if you sign him?).
Feaster mentioned they targeted another player to trade for his rights after Wideman, for a top 6 player who was difficult to play against, but the price was too steep.
If Phoenix doesn't sign Doan, Calgary is likely the team that will.

No one has passed on Doan lately, 11 teams interested at last check. He has been waiting to figure out what the deal is with Jamison and is now apparently waiting to see if there's going to be some sort of referendum on the arena deal. If so that would take months, and there's no way he'll wait around, so probably next week he signs?

This however is nonsense. Detroit is the frontrunner. Calgary isn't even in the top 5. NYR and Montreal are strong possibilities.

He would want to stay close to his home, and ranch. I can't see him leaving the Western Conference. If he doesn't sign in Phoenix I see him signing in places close to home like LA, San Jose, Colorado.

^Apparently the Kings are also in on him yeah. But NYR is an attractive place for just about anyone and they haven't done anything yet. You have to think Sather wants to make a splash sometime. Plus Doan would fit into that team's style perfectly and it gives him a chance at a cup.
As for who's talking... I dunno, the hockey media generally? Them rumour blogs? Have heard the same story for the past week or so on the score, radio, and reading online. Feel free to not believe me. Here's a couple.

That's an awfully shallow analysis.
