Headphone jack detection problem

Hey gang. I have a set of Edifier S330D speakers that supply a breakout volume control knob complete with headphone and mic input mini jacks.

The speakers have stopped working, and I'm positive it's something to do with the headphone-detection circuitry being stuck 'on'.

I took the volume control unit apart and in playing around with it got some sound from the speakers but nothing consistent. I can't seem to find the 'trigger' for this. In researching this headphone detection seems to be a circuit, not a physical connection made when a mini jack is inserted.

Any ideas on how I can fix this?

You sound like you know a whole lot more about this than I, but it will give your thread a bump at least even if it is dumb questions:

-You checked, and headphones obivously work when plugged into the unit ?
-Did you check the source the speakers are connected to, i.e. plug other speakers into your laptop?

I know you think it is an hardware problem, and it probably is as you know your device the best, but I tried to google your issue and model, and the problem which seem to come up alot was sound card issues, anyway (again)i s it the device you are connecting them to?

Thanks for the input, Kavy. I've done some more troubleshooting

Since my original post...

- I was able to recreate the problem with my iPod as the source (ruled out computer as the problem)
- received a free replacement cable from Edifier with the volume control knob and headphone jack input. The new cable did not fix the problem.
- tested the speakers today by connecting them directly to another source, bypassing the subwoofer and cable. They check out fine.

I guess I'm down to looking at the subwoofer as the culprit, or taking it in for repair. Weird.
