A few losses could hopefully change the idea of the Jays being buyers at the deadline, in this market and how far out of the AL East they are.

They had their chances early in the game, but failed to capitalize. Laffey has look good so far as a starter.

It depends on the acquisition cost of getting a starter or two.
If it costs guys that kind of stink like Rajai Davis, Eric Thames, David Cooper, Chad Jenkins, Sierra, McDade, or any of the other middling prospects, then it would be a good deal. I'd even throw Gose or one of the decent starter prospects like Nicolino in a deal possibly if the starter is young/good enough.
My hope would be to get Cliff Lee and Matt Garza of the Phillies and Cubs personally.
Both are very good quality and your rotation would consist of Lee, Morrow, Garza, Romero, and Alvarez. You could probably deal Gose + Dyson + Thames/Cooper etc to the Cubs for Garza, and Nicolino + D'Arnaud + Minor prospect for Lee. You wouldn't really see a big hit to the overall prospect pool because we have so much depth at all positions but would see a big time improvement on the pro team.

I'd really hate to lose D'Arnaud, not sure he has any value with his injury right now. Teams might be wondering how he'll come back from it.
If the make any trade for a starter, I just want it to be someone who's gonna be in the rotation for 2013.

I agree, but the scary thing is that we have guys that are equivalent or better in all spots with the exception of D'Arnaud (although Jimenez isn't bad)
Marisnick is a more rounded player than Gose and can hit where Gose is still iffy
Dyson is more or less a potentially good pen arm like Rzep from last year.
Thames/Cooper are filler
D'Arnaud we have Perez and Jiminez both of whom are decent plus JPA (even though he's not great)
Nicolino, we have Snydergaard, Sanchez, Nolin, Descalfiani, Norris, Comer, Musgrove, Stilson, Stroman, Smoral, De Jong etc etc etc so it's not a huge loss

I would say that if the Jays want to do more than spin their wheels they absolutely have to go out and get another starter with some sort of track record for next year.
You hope Romero rebounds, Morrow is healthy and keeps building on what he had done this year, and Alvarez is a year wiser.
As of right now I think the Jays will be in tough to finish 500 this season. Hopefully Romero has hit rock bottom and has a good outing today.

Ugly game. Jays bats on all-star break early.

Bad move by Jose trying to get to 3rd there, even though he looked safe.
At least Romero look good today, one mistake pitch cost him.

This was a critical series for the jays. The playoffs seem unlikely.....

Well, playoffs were a bit of a long shot this year to begin with. The only way it would've been realistically possible is that if one of Lind or Thames played to their potential, as well as the pen not sucking, and Romero not being terrible.

The Jays have the 2nd most runs in the AL. If they had a healthy rotation right now, I think playoffs could without question be a possibility.

With Perez going down with the elbow problem, do you think that the Jays should fire the pitching coach?
