Couple shots from the Gold Spike pool party in Vegas with the Real McKenzies. The guy belly flopping is a favourite of mine..

Holy, grass macro shots are amazing. Good catch on the lightning, Chris. I have yet to get decent lightning. I haven't posted anything in a while so here are some recent ones.

Yasa - wow!!!! awesome pics!!

i have a little confession for the lightning pics - i have a sensor - it just attaches to my camera and i sit back, relax, and watching the light show

i found this in another forum for what i have:
http://www.pixtus.com/forum/product-...ml#post1362308

it works pretty well and is a lot easier that doing multiple long exposure shots hoping to catch some lightning. it also works well if you want to do some off camera flash photography - set up your shot, trigger your flash and the sensor picks up the flash and will take the picture

My little Canon Powershots get motion detection functionality through a downloadable firmware package called CHDK. You just gave me a way to use my 3D camera again (the USB ports that I previously used for sync have died on me twice now, so I'm done putting money into that particular set up). Of course, it'll only work for off-camera flash, but still nice.

I also did not realize you could get those sensors that cheap, the one I saw was closer to $300. Dunno if it would work as a general motion sensor, but I would try it for fireworks. (My experience with fireworks is that the first ones are always the best - less smoke hanging around.)

15 (5 exposures x 3) photo panoramic of a big storm cloud north of Airdrie this afternoon. Estimate it was right overtop of Carstairs at the time. Was handheld, so a bit of distortion on the photo, but meh.

Looks best on this:

The 107th Annual Millarville Races last weekend at Millarville Racetrack.

Out of the gate, watching from the inside rail . . . .

. . . . . Woweee!!!...............

Down the straightaway . . . .

Around the turn . . . . .

Below, the historic Stock Horse Race, the way it all started in 1905 on this same site, local ranchers, farmers and acreage owners against each other for bragging rights and their name on a trophy.

She's got a big lead under threatening prairie skies . . . .

The wire-to-wire winner, her first win and the third for this particular horse. The ladies are frequent winners of this race.

It's a great family day . . . . three-legged races for the kids in the infield between pari-mutuel races.

They are calling for clear skies this week so there should be lots of opportunities...

Canada Day and Opening Night of Stampede have passed and no Fireworks photos made their way here yet?

Here are some, from last night (6-July), of the show at Stampede Park

... and of course, had to aim the camera a little to the right to get the obligatory shot of the Calgary skyline.

we had a severe thunderstorm warning for kelowna today.... and it missed us... barely, but it missed us

i was on my deck all ready with my setup for lightning pics and nothing. all we got was the eastern most edge of the storm - i could hear thunder, but that was it.

at least i got in a couple nice sunset pics....
