Default Can we stop the personal stuff yet?

I have been posting on CP since 2005, the quality of the discussion here was 2nd to none, the comraderie was there and it was fun to post. What the hell happened?
It is now like a warzone, especially on the FOI forum where instead of discussing or debating issues it is a full out mud slinging contest half the time. Fans are constantly attacking other fans and getting personal about it and it is really dragging the board down. I am not going to say I am innocent because I have been guilty in the past as well but it is time to clean it up. Sometimes there can be a wolf pack mentality on the board too, where one poster is ridiculed by another and then a bunch of posters will jump on board with that post and just pile on the guy. A lot of the times the guy taking the abuse gets tired of it and snaps and earns himself a lifetime suspension while the posters who piled on accomplish their goal and move on to another. I have seen some good contributers get bounced off here from that very situation happening and though I might have not agreed with their posts or even thought they might be a little out to lunch they did not deserve the crap they constantly took every time they posted. The baiting posts have got to stop, it has gotten to ridiculous levels. Tell me you are not sick of it?? I am tired of hearing other posters referring to fellow CPers as idiots or morons because they have a differing opinion, we are all Flames fans at heart. Most of us are guilty of going overboard, myself included in the past. It is time to leash it in because as much as I love CP it is starting to get where I don't want to post here for fear of being insulted or ridiculed for having an idea or opinion. Maybe the mods can tighten the reigns or something. We are all Calgary Flames fans, we go through the highs and the lows together, lets show some respect for one another huh?

I wish posters here would put Moon on ignore. It gets rather tiring reading the same old crap over and over again about how negitive Moon is.

Things have gotten much worse since Jay Bouwmeester signed here. Once he is traded I'm sure all the problems will be solved.

I like that this thread was started by the guy who trolls every transaction thread with how much he hates Jay Bouwmeester, and then wonders why people snap at him.

I also think the easiest way to keep from being called a moron, is to not be an obnoxious moron but maybe that's just me.

^^^this is exactly what I am talking about, we need to start eliminating posts like this and crack down on the posters as well. Accusations, name calling, insults, that is the MO of guys like rubecube. The garbage like the above needs to stop. He is obviously trying to bait me with that crap. I am tired of this kind of crap flooding the forums.

Baiting you? Not at all. You have had run-ins with numerous members on this board who have all called you out for the same garbage. Yet instead of maybe changing your behaviour to become less obnoxious, you blame the people who call you out on it for being bullies. People aren't coming down on you because they disagree with your posts. They come down on you because your posts are largely confrontational, negative, repetitive, etc.

It's like my ex-girlfriend, who used to complain that all my friends and family didn't like her because they were jerks. If you're interacting with a wide-range of people and personalities, and still manage to consistantly find yourself in confrontational situations with a majority of those people, who is the common denominator?

EDIT: Also, if you want to see this kind of change, maybe consider leading by example instead of posting stuff like this:

Rube does have a point here, dissentowner. One needs only to look at your contribution history to see that you find a way to trash Bouwmeester in nearly every thread you post in. It is irritating, annoying, off topic in most cases, and it only serves to tire people out. Even when they agree with your opinion on the player.

I discuss the player when he is brought up which is in every single thread kind of like Matt Stajan, I thought that was what the forum was for. I find it funny that rubecube used that thread link as an example because that is a perfect example of baiting a poster and going overboard. I posted that I would like to see Perron here for Bouwmeester, a player rumoured to be of interest to the Blues and the posts that immediately followed were ridiculous and garbage. I never just post that I dislike Bouwmeester on the team, I give my reasons why, others give their reason to agree or disagree, it is called talking hockey. Ganging up and attacking somebody or throwing insults and spewing hate toward a fellow CPer is not and has zero place here anymore.

Well, the only response I can really give to that is to suggest you go back and read Rube's point about the common denominator. The problem here is that talking hockey is becoming increasingly difficult because people like you keep funneling every discussion into the same topics. And those topics are inevitably negative and distracting. You create a negative atmosphere, then wonder why people are so negative towards you?

Not all of my posts are negative but that is not the point. This isn't about me, it is about the amount of fellow trashing going on in general between posters.

Fair enough. And my point wasn't that you're the only one guilty of being repetitive and negative. There are plenty of posters who go into every thread with the same schtick and it's tiring. I suppose there's the whole "if you don't like it, then ignore it" concept, and that's basically what I've done.

When I signed up on this site, it was originally to talk about hockey and I spent most of my time in FOI. Now I pretty much avoid that place like the plague. I'll go in and check out the headlines of the threads to see if there's any news, and then I usually head to the OT and Other Sports forums. I very rarely post in FOI because every topic basically degenerates into the same few subjects. Half the time there are 2-3 threads on the first page that are virtually the same topics. It's quite frankly rampant stupidity and incivility in there. I really don't understand how someone can find it entertaining to login and re-post the same thing 5-6 times per day.

So yeah, I basically have tuned a lot of it out, but I know for some of the more rabid hockey fans it's hard for them to stay away from there and they're extra frustrated with quality of the discussions. You see quality posters like Resolute and MMF lashing out at the idiots and it's pretty easy to understand why.

Dude, you went out of your way to try and funnel the David Perron signing thread into yet another trade Bouwmeester thread - because god knows, there aren't enough of them - got dogpiled, and ran straight here. This is about you. People have gotten fed up with you and you want the mods to step in and protect you from the fallout your own behaviour has spawned.

You aren't the only one, but you stuck your neck out here, and it got chopped at. I'll offer some constructive advice for the entire forum: We all know who hates Bouwmeester. We know who hates Brent Sutter. We know who hates Matt Stajan. We know who hates Feaster. We know hates everything the Flames do. And we know that there will be threads about those topics. But we simply don't need to hear about it in every bloody thread. Let some other topics breathe, and the personal sniping you complain about will diminish.

Use the ignore function is you feel someone is being overly negitive. Calling out someone on their behaviour only serves to derail the topic being discussed in a particular thread. Yes we know who hates a certain player or coach but all know who dislikes a certain poster or posters. It gets old pretty fast.

To be fair, Resolute and myself have always been a little feisty. We really are the left overs of the JohnnyFlame-Lanny days

Flash Walken, a poster I really respect and enjoy reading what he says made a comment about how my postings have changed recently, not in a good way. Going to try to be better at attacking points and not the poster.
