+1, I'm flying into town Saturday morning, and hope to buy a decent cheap one in the downtown core or SAIT area.

Depends on how much you want to spend.
If you really want a good hat, can't go wrong with Smithbilt.
Not cheap, but it'll last a looooong time.

To the OP, who lives in Calgary, why not do it up right and get a Smithbilt? If you're gonna buy in to the Stampede lunacy and fake it, you might as well fake it like a boss.
They're made right here in Calgary. When you go in to buy one, they'll take you out back and shape and trim the brim to your liking.
I know nothing about cowboy hats, so I can't comment on the quality of it versus any other hats you can buy in the area, but whenever I have a choice of buying Made in Canada, I always do... and if the rare opportunity to buy something made in your back yard presents itself, I'm all over it.
Check the place out if you have time... you can spend anywhere from $95 to $950.
Either way, it beats buying some cheap wicker crap with a Corona emblem glued to the top of it.
If that's all you want, I'm sure you can buy those at any 7-11 in town.

To be honest, I was looking to spend about $60 max. I hope to purchase one tomorrow, but I'm not really concerned about buying an "authentic" hat, or something of very high quality. Just something that isn't made from straw...lol.

A straw hat will be much more comfortable to wear in the heat that's expected over the next week. They're lighter and let some breeze through, unlike felt hats.
You can get a good quality straw hat in the $60 range at Lammle's or Riley & McCormick. The Bay stores around town usually have a western wear section during Stampede.

I was looking at Riley & McCormick, and I may head down there after work tomorrow. I'll have to check out the Lammle's website.

Felt, straw..... whatevs.
If you're in your early 20's, during stampede you're guaranteed to get laid.
May not be the prettiest flower in the field... but like I said: whatevs.

I'd recommend against buying from Lammle's. This is only because one of the daughters broke my heart when she broke up with me. Their hats are probably in your price range and are decent for what you pay.

Any $60 straw hat is WAY too much. Too bad I live so far away and will only be coming for garth as I could sell you all top quality straw for 20 or even a fur/felt for 50 bucks.

I'm 6'2/200. Would a 6 3/4 hat fit me? I usually would take large, but I just had an offer and I am unfamiliar with hat sizes.

Probably not, but it depends on how big your head is. I'm 6'1" and take a 7 5/8 hat, but it isn't really related to your height. I knew a guy who was about the same height as me who could never find a hat that fit his head.
Hats are a lot like shoes, even if you know your size, it can vary from one manufacturer to another. Go into the store and try them on.
Here's a sizing guide: http://www.qualityhats.com/stetson1.htm
6 3/4 is pretty small.

If you mean fit hilariously like sitting on the very top of your head, then yeah. I don't think any normal man would be under 7. I'm a little shorter than you and I'm 7 3/8.

Historically, the majority of hats worn by Cowboys were actually Bowler hats and not the familiar Cowboy hat of popular culture and westerns. Go to Stampede as historically accurate guy and you are guaranteed not to get laid?

So you are recommending a latex hat?

Your height and weight have absolutely no bearing on the circumference of your head.
You know...they make this thing called a "tape measure". Basically, you take it and wrap it around your dome and it gives you a number. That number is close to the circumference of your head which lines up the the hat size you need. These new fangled technologies are mind blowing.
If you don't have a sewing tape measure, take a piece of string and wrap it around your head and then measure the string. Honestly...not that difficult. How have you survived this long?

Smithbuilt if you're going all out.
Lammle's if you're looking for something a little cheaper - they will hve all types, styles and price ranges, from the ######bag shady brady's above to high quality.
As for the size question - if you wear a large hat, a 6 3/4 will not fit you. Probably 7 1/4 or bigger.
