Novice to intermediate players wanted for fall/winter rec team
I apologize if this is out of line with forum rules but I figured this would be a good place to post this.
I'm on a low-div beer league team and we're looking for a few new recruits for the Winter 2012-13 season.
Cost is between $500-600 (depending on roster size at start of season; payable in installments) for 30 regular season games and double-elimination playoffs for qualifying teams. Two refs at every game, uniforms enforced but can provide jerseys (just need to add namebar).
Ice times are in all quadrants of the city with start times typically ranging from 7:30 PM to 11:00 PM, any day of the week except holidays.
We have a good group with a few spots available for the season starting September 2012. Novice to intermediate forwards and defense welcome.
If you're looking to play some fun, competitive hockey this winter, please let me know.
Cheers!

Sorry, I should clarify. That price is based on a 19-skater roster. It looks like too many on paper, but we've kept a large roster the past couple of years to keep a decent-sized bench on any given night without having to rely on spares too much. It also keeps the cost down. It's pretty rare that the full roster shows up (in my experience).
Anyway, the price does go up as the roster size goes down. If we go as low as 16, the price is closer to 600.
Thanks, good question. I'll adjust the original post.

I would, but its too bad that I can barely move on skates. If I get better, I might give you a shout. :P

19 full time players? I mean, I'm glad that works for your team, and the cost due to that many full time guys is a great selling point. But, I don't think I've ever played on a team where that would work well.
The most you'd ever want at one game is 13 (3 lines, 4 D), and that would require 6 full time guys missing each game.
Even going with 15 full time guys in the past, there's been many, many games where we were holding our breath that someone would drop out late so we didn't have to go with 5 or 6 D.
Plus, the aboslute best games are the few times during the season where only 10 guys make it, so you get to roll two lines and 4 D, so you're out there every second shift. Which would mean 9 guys would have to bail on a game in your scenerio.

Yeah, we roll with 14 full timers (might even go with only 13 this winter). It's virtually guaranteed that 1/14 will miss each game. When they don't, and I think it's happened once, you roll 5 d.
But 19? That's crazy town, in my humble opinion.
It would be like playing in the heckle, but every week.

Well, these are valid points. I know 19 skaters sounds like it'd be tough to manage, but in our (unique?) situation, it has worked out so far. We almost always had two to three forward lines and 2 defense lines. Maybe that was just luck?
I guess when I really think about it, most of the guys we're losing this year are guys who struggled to make it out to a lot of the games in previous years, which is what made our large roster manageable.
Ideally, if everyone is committed, a smaller roster is best.
I've only been at this a couple of years - learning as I go!
So, it might end up being more like 600 bucks, but the offer still stands if anyone is looking for a team!
Cheers.

in SM83's defence, often new/poor skaters use more engery to skate, and get, well, knackered.....do more skaters is sometimes a good thing.

My team goes with 14 full time players and 4 half spots, giving a total roster of 18 players. We rarely have more than 13 people show up to any given game and it helps keeps costs down.
In HNA, dont you have to have matching equipment (other than a jersey) as well? I though I heard something about matching socks/helmet colour or something.

Not sure if this is the case for the lower divisions, but it is the case for us in winter. Even gloves, pants, helmets, etc. have to be the same colour. They're pretty strict about it. In their summer league, though, it's much more lax

The HNA uniform rule applies to all divisions in winter; Gloves are the only exception. I found that over the last few years, as my team mates bought new gloves, they got ones that match our colours. I have to say, having both teams have proper matching uniforms looks pretty classy.

I agree that it looks good, but I think its a little intense for a rec league. I think they should stop at jersey/socks.

It's true, they're fairly strict about the uniforms during winter. It's mostly jerseys and helmets. I think you can get away with the socks a bit (e.g., if the team is wearing black socks with red stripes, you can probably just wear plain black).
Granted, it's the only league I've played in, but I think they're well organized and fair.

You Canadians are wimps. My tournament team usually rolls 10 skaters deep and a goalie to tourneys. Usually 4 games in 48 hours. However we have a tournament coming up with a possible 6 games so we added the extra line.
Im sure Oklahoma hockey is much slower and less demanding than Canadian hockey which is why we can get away with only 10 guys .
