^^per YouTube vid, he also seems to find the open ice really well ( breakout passes, offensive zone), has crazy quick hands in tight, and a quick release.
All things I'm pretty pumped about, along with really wanting to help Cervenka any way he can. I hope our D can get him the puck quickly, as Wideman should help with that.
I know YouTube can make Adam Pardy look awesome, but colour me impressed with this signing!
Just heard about this & as critical as I (& many others obviously) have been about Feasters choices, this is a really solid pick up for the Flames! This move will probably bear more fruit than the Wideman signing will.
And by Feaster's moves, I mean a whole new coaching staff combined with the additions of Baertschi, Cervenka, Hudler, Wideman, and (hopefully) an extra motivated Stempniak, Comeau, and Backlund.
.
Still not a fan of Stempniak and Comeau being brought back but... this team has been missing leadership behind the bench since Darryl Sutter left. Playfair was a powder puff and moving from assiant to head coach on the same seem rarely works. Keenan lost it years ago and Brent Sutter never seemed to have it at the NHL level.
If Hartley is a good leader as a coach this team can potentially make some noise.
It's a good talented forward group albeit with some unproven guys at centre. I like the d-core. and Kipper is Kipper.
Basically I'm excited, I'm a fan...

For a guy who only averages about 20 goals, Hudler has a really impressive highlight package. It's like he only scores nice goals. If he ever grew the balls to go to the front of the net to pick up some garbage goals, the guy could be a perennial 30 goal guy.

A good signing. I don't expect that he'll exceed his goal total from last season (that shooting percentage is an outlier), but Hudler certainly improves the Flames' collective Hockey IQ and offensive skills set. Also, the price and term was about what I was expecting for him.
The team, however, could use a tad more size up front.

I may be bat sh*t out of my mind, but if Feaster's moves this offseason don't get us into the playoffs this season, I don't know what will.

Good job Feaster.
To be quite honest though, even if Feaster didn't change one single player from last year and only the coach, we would make the playoffs this year.
I just keep thinking about the potential fire power of our top two lines. My brain is hurting.
We may not be tough and mean as Colorado and Minnesota and we may not be as skilled (or yet as skilled as) Vancouver, but I think we'll be able to make some noise and compete hard in the division, if not the conference.
Sorry, I'm just really happy with this move and pretty optimistic about the season at this point.

Part of me wanted the roster to remain exactly the same to make the bet with EB that much more satisfying, but this is a good signing. He's better than Leino.
plus he has played his entire NHL career with the Detriot frigging Redwings learning how to compete and be a winner the right way. His season after season of playoff experience and SC ring is a another intangible asset of Hudler's.
He brings a total different attitude , expections of victory, playing well under pressure (playoffs) than florida: Jokinen, Bouwmeester and Toronto: Stajan, Stempniak crews.
Hudler: 33 pts in 66 playoff games
The Flames have Iggy 56 playoff games, Sarich 57, and Tanguay the big playoff experience winner 98 games.
As much of an underdog as the 2004 Flames were they had Gelinas, Simon, Warrener, Ferrence, Yelle, Niemenien and Conroy that had a lot of playoff experience
adding Hudler to me means light at the end of the tunnel. I am just thankful they weren't done and I had that impression before for some reason.
I think the forwards are okay, they look pretty good. I'm so on the fence about Backlund.
On the one hand, he's a skilled player, and we have a new coach that pushes young guys and will hopefully create a game that skilled players can blossom into. On the other hand, if we keep him his value could depreciate big time if he doesn't rise to the occasion and at a time that it could be maximized now in a package with Bouwmeester.

You mean like where he is at here... It looks like he doesnt mind getting to the front of the net?

Oh yeah. i have a bet with him too and Phaneuthier. What was the bet again? hehe
Can't say I know too much about him. Who is a comparable player to him that we've had in the past?
He's 28 years old and has played over 400 games... he's Jiri Hudler, if you haven't seen him play much or don't know him just check out youtube or something. Questions like that are for unknown players and rookies.
Think this is pretty clever, should make the transition for Roman easier, possibly a nice touch for our other Roman.
I didn't think it possible at all... but I feel like this might actually give us a shot with Jagr, that as a full Czech line would get me pretty psyched!
Am now interested in what we're going to do with all our extra forwards...?
I'm guessing that the thinking was take a swing at Jagr and see how much he wanted and his interest in Calgary.
One of those two became a road block so Hudler was plan B.
But I'm good with that as I see Hudler as getting a 50 point player for reasonable dollars and adding a 30% surge to Cervenka's effectiveness this season with a fellow Czech in the fold to help him get acclimatized.
Kind of like signing 1.5 players instead of 1
