Like ths singing. Some people on here hang it on Feaster for not making a move and then when he does they continue. Can't please everyone Jay, but I look forward to seeing Jiri on opening night!
We need a Center. The only other guy that are remotely good are
Jason Arnott
Olli Jokinen
Daymond Langkow
and a bunch of 3rd/4th line C's like Hecht, Brule, Moore, etc.
If you eliminate the best guy on that list, and the 3rd best guy on that list, you're left with Jason Arnott. I'm not opposed to Arnott coming here at all for a year or 2. Just think that if you're going to get someone, why not get a guy that you know has chemistry with players etc.
You are right of course, the Flames require a Centre; however, it is time to move on. I don't really care how the Flames get a centre - through the farm system, free agency or through a trade. In this case "third time is not a charm" Find another solution - any solution.
An article in the G & M about the signing. Apparently Cervenka and Hudler are friends.
“It’s a coincidence we end up on the same team,” said Hudler, who said Cervenka was taking English lessons. “Whatever he’s going to need, I’m going to be there for him.”
“Passion for hockey in Canada is unmatched,” said Hudler. “There is a lot of history, a lot of tradition and that’s exciting. I just want to be one of the pieces to help this team, step by step, get better and better.
“Calgary has great players starting with [Miikka] Kiprusoff, [Jay] Bouwmeester, Wideman, [Mark] Giordano. I can’t name everybody. Jarome Iginla. Pure leader. Goal scorer. Amazing player. [Mike] Cammalleri. I can go on and on. There’s a lot of winners in that dressing room. I just want to be part of that.”

It will be interesting to see if Feaster pulls off a trade to shed some un needed contract with Stajan. They will be much improved compared to the beginning of the 2011 season.
Maybe the Flames are trying to build the ultimate underdog team. They will keep making unpopular acquisitions until every media outlet and fan base completely counts them out and then uses it to fuel the fire.
Now they just have to keep Bouwmeester and re-sign Jokinen and they will be good to go.
LOL. What are these negative spins I've come up with?
I'm posting my opinion. Not trying to spin anything and then back it up. Wideman is not a guy I would've paid 5 million for and I think he may end up as a bad contract. I hope he doesn't but I'm very nervous about that signing. Hudler was not a guy I was hoping we'd target and while he does add skill he doesn't add size. Our lineup had already gotten smaller over the past half year before this signing. Hopefully it works out. .
Who would you have targeted?
I am happy with this signing, he was as skilled guy that I thought we could get for relatively cheap. 4 million in today's NHL is relatively cheap. I think he has the potential to be 60+ point guy a year over the next 4 years. If he accomplishes that, 4 million is a good price.
If I recall correctly, Hudler was one of those players that some people had projected going in the 1st round but he fell due to question marks about his size. As Detroit does, they took their time developing him and it paid off.
I like this signing for the simple reason that he will bring with him an expectation of winning which can help the culture change this team needs.
